part 1
Sam carried the small form into the room, placing the child in bed she pulled the covers up around her. Standing up she gazed down at the peaceful look on her new daughter’s face.
Arms encircled her waist as Janet walked up behind her; Sam raised an arm allowing her to slip under it and fit close to her side.
“I’ve always wanted a daughter,” whispered Janet as she gazed up at her taller partner.
“Me too,” Sam whispered back, giving Janet a squeeze.
“I just wish the circumstances had been different,“ Janet said quietly, her tone serious though.
part 2
Sam squeezed harder, “She has the guys and us now. We’ll make as many new memories for her as we can.”
“I know,” sighed Janet, “but we can’t let her forget where she came from, she needs that; every child needs that.”
Cassie whimpered, twisting in the sheets, caught in a bad dream. Janet gave Sam a pleading look; she nodded and released the hold on her partner.
Janet walked over, pulling back covers; she slipped beside the girl until she could hold Cassie in her arms comfortably. As Cassie felt the arms around her, she calmed down, sleeping once more.
part 3
Watching Cassie settle down, Janet smiled and motioned for Sam to join them. Turning out the lights, she tiptoed over and slipped in behind Janet. Spooning against her, Sam placed an arm over her new family. The three drifted off in their own dreamscapes, each finding comfort in the arms of the ones who loved them.
Cassandra woke during the night, turning until she could see the faces of her parents, lit by a small lamp. She smiled at the sight of Janet’s head tucked under Sam’s chin. Twisting back, she closed her eyes to dream of her new life.

Challenge #89 Cassandra
When Cassie woke up, she still had company in bed with her. She slipped out of Janet’s arms then watched as her new mother turned to cuddle against Sam. Smiling at the two, she didn’t understand why they had to keep their love secret. They explained the rules it would break concerning their jobs but it still didn’t make sense to the girl. On Hanta, many of her friends had two mothers or fathers, it was normal.
Cassie walked quietly from the room to watch some of the cartoons Sam showed her the night before until her parents woke up.

Janet looked up from reading. The house was quiet…to quiet since Sam was home also. Rising from the couch, she began looking for her. She wasn’t upstairs, nor the kitchen or garage.
Janet looked out back…there she was. Sam sat on a tarp, pieces of engine spread around, occasionally she would reach into a bucket, pulling out another piece; checking its condition only to replace it.
Janet knew there would be no pulling her away from the project. She learned it was impossible to come between Sam and her first love. As long as there were motorcycles, Janet had competition.
