Shayera leaned against the glass staring into the endless expanse of space before her. She had recently moved back into her old quarters at the Watchtower and had been spending most of her days in the observatory collecting her thoughts. Nearly all of the members of the team had forgiven her and welcomed her back into their ranks…all but John. That was proving to be a very difficult thing to deal with.

“Why can’t he just see that I had no chose? I was just following orders,” she said to her reflection. However, deep down she really knew that was not the reason he would not forgive her. He was still hurt that she had not told him about Hro Talek, that she had carried on a relationship with him while being pledged to another.

Because of that he would never forgive she believed, he had even moved on, from what she could tell by way of the League gossip vine a.k.a Flash. She could handle that; if only he would just speak to her, give her chance just to say she was sorry for it all. Turning away from the view she walked towards the doorway, just as she reached it the doors opened. There standing in the doorway was John, a sullen look on his face.

“Diana told me this is where you spend most of your time now,” he said to her.

Turning away from him, she faced the view again. “Yes…it’s very quiet here. I can be alone with my thoughts and the views not that bad,” she replied with a small laugh, trying to break the tension that had entered the room with him.

“I guess you have a lot to think about,” he said entering the room.

“Yes…quite a few things actually, life, loss, love…betrayal,” she said turning back to face him, “and forgiveness.”

“I don’t think I can ever forgive what you did to me,” he snarled out, “the whole spy thing…that I can forgive, you were doing your job. But leading me on…that I can never forgive.”

“I wasn’t leading you on John. I really had feelings for you, I loved you,” she tried to explain but he cut her off.

“No…I don’t believe you; you could never have betrayed me if you really loved me!” he said loudly.

“But John…” she tried to say.

“No buts, it’s over and done with but for the sake of the team I will put up with you even though it makes my stomach turn,” John stated.

Shayera gasped in shock, stifling a cry she rushed passed him and disappeared down the corridor.

The Green Lantern stood for a moment trying to get his temper under control, turning around he exited the observatory. Leaning against the wall beside the door was Wonder Woman.

“All better now John?” she asked. “Does it make you feel good to make her cry?”

“It’s none of your business Diana,” he said to the Amazon as he walked away.

However, Diana would not let it go at that, she followed trailing behind him as he stalked down the corridor.

“We’ve forgiven her, why can’t you?” she asked, catching up and walking beside him. “Even I’ve come to terms with my anger and let bygones be.”

“Well that’s the difference between us, I don’t and you do,” he growled.

“That still gives you no excuse to be a cruel person, John,” Diana stated.

Stopping in the middle of the corridor he turned to her.”What do you really want Diana? You want me to go apologize to her, tell her I forgive her for breaking my heart. Well it’s not going to happen!” he yelled at her.

“Well it couldn’t hurt…but right now I think you need a lesson in humility before that would happen!” she said getting up in his face.

“A lesson huh? Well if you think I need one why don’t you teach me!” he yelled back.

“Fine! Practice room two…ten minutes!” she loudly and continued down the corridor, leaving Lantern standing in the corridor trying to figure out what he had just gotten himself into. ‘Well if she wants a fight, I guess I’ll give it to her.’ he thought. Following the angry Amazon, he just shrugged his shoulders and sighed.

Ten minutes later, he entered the practice room. Diana had changed from her normal costume into a loose chiton belted at the waist. "Well how do you want to do this?” she asked as he entered. “Hand to hand, weapons, powers or none?” she said listing the options.

“Let’s face it, Princess, without my ring you have a very unfair advantage over me,” he calmly stated.

“Oh I can be nice and play fair. I’ll go easy on you if you want to do this without the ring,” she said grinning.

“Very well…no powers then and let’s use staves,” he added removing the power ring from his hand.

Walking over to a panel Diana opened it removing two staves, turning she tossed one to John. Twirling hers’ in a flourish she took up a ready stance. “Well come on big man, let’s see what you can do without that ring on,” she said taunting John. “I don’t bite,” she adde with a grin.

Lantern moved towards her, circling to the left his stave in the guard position. Rushing forward he brought it up and over in a high swiping movement. Diana easily dodged it and countered with a thrust towards his mid-section. Jumping to the side, he avoided the jab. Circling one another they both waited for the next to make a move.

“You know,John, forgiving someone really isn’t that difficult,” Diana said as she made a motion towards his head.

“Well I guess it depends on the person doesn’t it,” he replied as he blocked her motion.

“Yes, I guess it does,” she commented as she swung the stave in an arc trying to catch him in the side.

He blocked her attack but as it connected she dropped down and swept his legs from underneath him. Landing on his back, he looked up at her, “Nice move,” he grunted out as he picked himself up.

Diana just smiled; “Oh there’s more.” With that she rushed towards him barraging him with a flurry of hits. He succeeded in blocking most of them, but a couple landed on his ribs. Backing away, he circled around to her right trying to get an advantage.

Once again Diana spoke up, “You really should talk to her John, really talk not just yell accusations at her,” she said blocking an attempt to sweep her legs, “It really would make things better in the long run.” she said tagging him in the ribs again.

“I really wish you would drop this. It’s none of your business I told you,” John said as he jumped back dodging another jab at his ribs

“Oh…I made it my business when you made her cry John. There was no reason for you to have done that,” Diana said as she dropped to the floor and thrust upwards just missing his jaw.

Stumbling back John looked at her in shock.”What are doing trying to take my head off?” he asked pressing forward again after he recovered his balance, jabbing at her stomach.

“Just keeping you on your toes, although maybe a good hit in the head would help knock some sense into you,” she replied countering the jab at her stomach. Moving quickly to the side, she returned the motion and scored another hit to his ribs.

Slowly they circled again, each trying to gauge the others next moves. Suddenly Diana spun around, her stave whistling through the air narrowly missing his head once more. “Yes…I’ve decided you definitely need a good knock in the head John,” she said with a wicked smile. With that remark, she pressed the advantage opened up by her last move; with another flurry of strikes, several of which landed on his ribs, she backed him up against the wall. “Next time you should really pick to use your powers,” she said as she let him come away from it. “Amazons have been using staves for centuries.”

Once she had let him come forward enough, she circled around him, blocking a thrust to her head; she countered with yet another jab to his ribs, hearing a crack she pressed forward making him move back. As he tried to sweep her feet again she planted her stave on the ground and used it to push herself up kicking out and catching him square in the jaw.

John fell to the ground with a loud groan and clasped his jaw. Bending over him Diana smirked. “Maybe that will help you put things in perspective. Oh and another thing John…you may think you’re a big man upsetting Shayera like you did but it takes an even bigger man to say he’s sorry,” With that said Diana twirled her stave around her and walked away from the groaning man, exiting the practice room and leaving Green Lantern on the floor, nursing his aches and mulling over her parting remark.
