Summary: Diana ponders her feelings.
Diana settled back into the chair located in front of the Watchtowers’ main console, as she sipped from her mug of cappuccino, ‘Damn that Wally’ she thought, ‘I can’t go a day without some kind of coffee drink.’ Shaking her head at the thought, she checked the monitors for any trouble brewing.
“Seems like a quiet day,” she said aloud, “and I hope it stays that way.” She had other things on her mind…mainly what to do about her growing feelings towards Batman.
Using the quiet time of her watch she proceeded to carry on a monologue with herself. She recalled her last visit to Paradise Island and the warning her mother had given her. “Now that you have become a part of man’s world you must face the possibilities of becoming attached to one of them. The laws of attraction and love are quite different with men my dear,” the queen had told her.
‘Mother had been serious,’ she thought, ‘matters such as this were different and confusing here. The main problem being was she attracted to Bruce Wayne or Batman?’
‘True, she had kissed Bruce when they were avoiding the Thanagarian patrol but that was really the only time she had encountered his real persona and even then he was still in bat mode. Most of the time her interactions had been with the Batman and even then it had been so hard to read him. He was just so…so infuriating.’ she thought with a shake of her head. “Why can’t he talk more?” she said aloud.
Rising from her seat and moving away from the console, she began to pace back and forth, her thoughts running rampant. ‘Yes, she had flirted with him at times, but nowhere near the amount of flirting she and Wally did and that was just for fun. She believed he had responded back sometimes but it was hard to tell whether he was being serious or sarcastic, if he was being Bruce Wayne or Batman.’
Clenching her fists in frustration she turned towards the view of space. “How do the women of this world deal with this?” she questioned aloud.
“Deal with what?” came the question from behind her.
She whirled around to face the cause of her predicament. Batman could move very quiet when he wanted she realized. “Just a small problem with adjustin,.” she told him.
He stood there facing her, quiet and brooding. “I think we need to talk,” he finally said.
“Yes…I think so,” she agreed.
“After your shift then; I’ll be in my lab,” he said and with a flourish of his cape exited the control room, leaving Diana standing there with a small grin on her face.
“Hmm…maybe now we’ll get to the bottom of this,” she remarked and returned to the chair to wait out the rest of her watch shift.
