merfilly Sam and Janet take a vacation in Gotham...dammit!
The sleek motorcycle rolled down the dark city street with two figures perched on the back dressed in racing leathers, their forms pressed tightly together. As the bike eased to a stop before a red light a sputtering noise sounded from the engine and then the machine died.
The passenger heard a muttered string of curses over the comm system in her helmet as the driver sat up and moved both of her feet to the ground, “Dammit, I thought I fixed it,” came over the comm.
Using her feet the driver pushed the bike out of the street and under a nearby streetlight, she dropped the kickstand and said, “Hop off and let me take a look,” to the passenger.
Slipping from the bike the passenger pulled the black helmet off, her shoulder length auburn hair spilling out of its confinement; she watched as the other woman raised a leg over the bike seat and dismounted on the other side to pull helmet off as well, her short blonde hair standing at attention from the static.
“See the country by motorcycle you said, “ Janet remarked wryly at the blonde.
“It’s not my fault the bike is being grumpy,“ Sam replied, “besides until we reached Gotham it was purring like a kitten.”
“You’re the one who wanted to come here…mysterious vigilantes in the night and all that nonsense,“ Janet reminded her.
“Well let’s just hope we don’t need them, “ Sam said looking around at their surroundings, “I think I took a wrong turn somewhere, this doesn’t look like the best part of town.”
The tall blonde removed a tool kit from one of the saddle bags slung over the back of the bike and knelt down to peer at the engine, “Hey…come hold the flashlight for me, I’m going to need both hands to remove this cover,” Sam told the doctor.
Janet moved to the other side of the machine and taking the light from Sam’s hand shone it on the engine, “Well hurry up and get it done, I really don’t think we need to hang around here for too long,” the doctor replied.

High above the two women on a nearby rooftop a slim figure peered over the edge of the building, the lights from a close building glinted off of the shiny leather jacket and a breeze ruffled her long blonde hair. She watched the two women tinker with the motorcycle and decided to keep a watch on them, just to be on the safe side; reaching a hand up to her neck she re-activated her comm, “Oracle,” she said in a calm tone.
“Yes, Canary…decide to let me back in on the patrol tonight?” a voice asked in her ear.
“It was dead tonight oh geeky one…just thought I’d let you know I might be a little late getting home,” the blonde remarked.
“Trouble?” the voice asked.
“Nope…just keeping an eye on two damsels-in-distress…well let’s hope they aren’t in distress; just playing it safe,” Dinah told her lover.
“Ahh…ever the one to keep a watchful eye out aren’t you my dear,” the voice replied with a hint of amusement.
“Well they are dressed in leather and you know I like leather,” Dinah remarked playfully.
Spotting movement below her and to the right Dinah said quickly, “Okay scratch the watching idea, looks like some rough boys want to play tonight.”
“Do I need to send Huntress over to help?” the voice asked not sounding worried.
“Nah…I can handle it…I’ll keep the comm on though,” Dinah said as she rose from her resting spot and made her way towards the fire escape.
“I feel special now,” Oracle remarked a bit sarcastically in her ear.
“And you know you are…gotta run babe, bad guys need their butts kicked…Canary out,” Dinah quipped and moved quickly down the steel ladder.

Meanwhile under the streetlight, Sam exclaimed with a short laugh, “Ha…found it…loose plug, one second and I’ll have us back on the road.”
“Just hurry up Sam, I’m getting scared,” Janet told her, she had heard movement coming from a nearby alleyway and she really didn’t want to find out what it was.
“Gimme a little more light,” Sam replied, “I just have to get the cover back on now,” and Janet leaned in closer with the flashlight.
“Well now, what do we have here boys?” a deep voice boomed out from behind them.
Both women turned to look as a group of five men walked out of the alleyway and spread out to surround them in a half-circle, several of them carried blunt weapons in the form of pipes or chains.
“Oh shit, “ Sam muttered, “ and me without a zat,” she added then picked up the largest tool she had, a crescent wrench, and easing to her feet pulled Janet behind her taller form.
The largest of the men moved closer, “Nice bike,“ he remarked in a sweet tone, “and you two aren’t so bad yourselves; want to have a little fun with me and the boys?” he added, eyeing their tight leather clad forms.
Just then a sing song voice called out, “Now boys…is this any way to treat a couple of beautiful women?”
Janet turned to look towards the new voice and saw a woman probably slightly taller than herself attired in a short leather skirt, matching jacket and torn fishnet stockings. The slight breeze blew her long blonde hair around her face as she walked into the light from overhead, standing on the clear side of the motorcycle she eyed the group of men, “Now…don’t you think you have better things to do tonight then cause trouble?” she asked them with a tilt of her head and a slight grin on her face.
Two of the men in the group dropped their weapons and ran away down the street but the leader just gave her a sneer, “I ain’t afraid of you toots,” he said loudly, “Get her!”
“Oh but you should be,” she replied calmly as the man to her right began to move; she darted towards him, sweeping low as he raised the pipe he carried and knocked him off his feet then punched him in the face, stilling any further movement.
Sam and Janet watched as the other man tried to circle the woman from behind and she dropped to a crouch then with a heave of her legs somersaulted into the air to land behind him, where she aimed a high kick to his head, taking him down swiftly.
Dinah saw the leader move towards the two women and she cried out, “Get down!” to the two.
Sam turned and grabbed Janet pulling her down close to the bike, they heard a piercing scream then Sam saw the large man fly backwards out of the corner of her eye. Raising her head Sam peeked over the seat of her bike then slowly rose, bringing the doctor up with her, “Wow,” she said in awe.
They watched as their blonde savior used zip ties to handcuff and hogtie the two men she’d taken out and moving around the two women she made her way over to where the large man now lay, moaning in pain, “Told you not to cause trouble,” she said to the man and cuffed his hands and feet.
Sam saw her touch the necklace at her throat and speak in a low tone then she turned to walk over to them, “Are you two okay?” she asked.
“Yeah we’re fine…thanks,” Sam replied and Janet added, “Yes…thank you.”
“No problem just doing my job…the police should be here shortly; did you finish fixing your bike?” the small blonde asked with a tilt of her head.
“The bike? Oh yeah…it’s fixed,“ Sam replied, still amazed at the small woman’s actions, “Who are you?”
“Just a member of the friendly neighborhood watch,” Dinah replied with a grin, “You two should be on your way if you don’t want to have to fill out a mountain of paperwork.”
With that said the small blonde strolled back across the street and disappeared into a dark alley. Sam and Janet stood watching her walk away still in a sort of shock over what just occurred then Sam muttered, “Dammit!”
Janet looked up at her taller partner, “What?” she asked.
“I should have asked her if she knew Batman,” she told Janet with a little grin which caused the doctor to roll her eyes; “Come on smart ass, let’s get out of here before the police show up,” the doctor said and picked her helmet up from the ground.
Sam chuckled, “Alright but I was serious…I really wonder if she knows Batman,” she said picking up the tool kit and putting it away.
“Well let’s remember to ask next time we get stranded in Gotham and have to be rescued by a small blonde hero,” Janet commented as she pulled her helmet on.
Sam laughed, pulling on her helmet she straddled the bike and leaned it over for the smaller woman to climb on. With a flick of the ignition the motorcycle roared to life again, its motor rumbling uninterrupted and the two eased back into the street and away from the scene of their little adventure.

Above them Dinah watched the bike speed away, “Hey Red, you feel like Thai or Chinese tonight?” she asked her lover.
“It’s up to you,” Oracle replied over the comm, “See you in thirty?”
“Yep…be home soon,” Dinah replied and began making her way over the rooftops towards her favorite Thai restaurant, another successful night of making Gotham a little more safe under her belt.
