Author's note: Okay...bear with me...set in Season 10...Janet still is alive and well in my little world....everybody knows her and Sam are a couple...and it's possible to travel back and forth to Atlantis...okay..now enjoy some team hijinks!...might not be fluffy but it's pretty funny!
Janet paced back and forth across the living room floor. The time was now two in the morning, she couldn’t decide if she was more worried or angry.
The night started out innocently enough; since it was Halloween, Sam and the guys volunteered to escort a group of the local elementary students on a trick or treating outing around town, while Janet stayed at home to carry out candy duty. After passing out all of her stock Janet sat on the front porch, relaxing in the swing while she waited for the teammates to return to the house. Around ten o’clock Daniel showed up…alone, the other members of SG-1 nowhere to be seen.
“Do you have any idea where they ran off to?” Janet asked him as they sat in the swing.
“I have no clue, Janet; they left me with the kids when we returned to the school, which was around nine. I was sure they would beat me back here,” he replied, “Have you tried calling them?”
“I’ve tried all their phones; either they turned them off or they can’t get to them,” she answered in a worried tone.
“I’m sure they’re fine, Janet; after all, they didn’t reach the ranks they are now by making stupid mistakes. Besides Teal’c is with them,” he said with a grin.
“Oh it doesn’t matter, Daniel; when you put Sam and Cameron together, they immediately turn into a couple of teenagers. I have a feeling even Teal’c could fail to make them question their actions when their minds are made up to do something,” remarked Janet wryly.
The two sat on the porch for the next two hours, each trying unsuccessfully to reach the others on their cell phones. Finally, around midnight, Daniel decided to go home, citing weariness from his earlier child filled night.
“I have a feeling they are fine, Janet, but give me a call when they show up. I’m sure they have a good reason for not getting in touch with us,” he said as he was leaving.
“Oh they better…especially Sam, she knows better,” Janet called out as he was getting in his car.
For the next two hours Janet tried to keep occupied by doing housework, trying not to let the worst thoughts pop into her head; she had already called and checked all the hospitals, with no luck, thank goodness. She just hoped they would show up soon or at least call, she thought while cleaning the kitchen for the second time that night.
All of this accumulated with her now pacing back and forth across the living room, trying to control her fears and anger…and yes…she was angry. Just then, she heard a car pull into the driveway, rushing to the window she looked out. It was not Cameron’s car…it was a police cruiser…her stomach dropped and panic gripped her, something has happened to them. Taking a deep breath she opened the door and was halfway to the cruiser by the time the officer stood up from the drivers’ seat.
Seeing the look on her face he quickly held up his hands, halting her motion, “Now Ma’am…everything is fine; I’ve got a few people you might like to have a talk with though,” he said pointing to the backseat.
Janet released the breath she was holding, they were okay…her fright now turned back to anger as she walked over to the side window and looked in, there in the backseat were the three wayward members of SG-1. She stood with hands on hips glaring at them; Teal’c just stared back with his usual stoic face, while Cameron gave her a half smile attempting to wave with his cuffed hands and Sam…she sat in between the two men with her head bowed down. Janet saw her just barely raise her head and glance towards her; she then quickly lowered it again once she caught the look on Janet’s face and tried to make herself smaller by sinking down lower in the seat.
Janet turned her back to them, looking at the officer she asked, “What did they do?”
“Well you see it wasn’t that bad…just some harmless fun I believe,” the officer began, “I received a call to check out a disturbance; it being Halloween and all I thought for sure I’d find a bunch of kids TP-ing a house or something,” he paused for a moment.
“I was surprised to find it was a bunch of high ranking Air Force officers instead,” he laughed, then stopped when he saw the look on her face grow darker.
“Umm…anyway, I caught them covering a yard with citrus fruit; don’t know where they found that much to use but they had the entire yard covered in oranges, grapefruits, lemons, you name it; if it was citrus it was in the yard. They were just starting to work on the porch when I showed up,” the officer said.
“I was tempted to take them downtown and press charges, but Colonel Carter kept mumbling about how Janet was going to kill her for this, so I decided to bring them home to you, figured that would be punishment enough; especially since they really didn’t do any harm to anything,” he stated finishing his story.
Janet turned back to glare at the three again, “Well I guess you can let them out now officer, I’ll take it from here.“ This was said in that special voice she used for belligerent airmen.
“Yes ma’am…they’re all yours now,” he said as he opened the back door, allowing the three over grown delinquents to emerge.
Removing the handcuffs, he turned back to Janet, “I’ll leave them in your hands now, Ma'am; I’m sure they won’t do anything like this again after you get through with them,” he said grinning at the angry woman.
Janet nodded her thanks as he entered his cruiser to leave, waiting until the car was gone she turned her attention to the three before her; arms crossed across her chest and foot tapping the pavement she just gave them her best doctors glare. Cameron started to say something but Janet held up one hand stopping him, she pointed towards the house, “Inside…now!” she growled out.
The three moved in a single file line towards the house, not one saying a word as Janet followed them inside. They walked into the living room and as Cameron started to sit on the couch, Sam yanked him back up to stand by her. He gave her a confused look and she just shook her head to say no. They stood at ease like a group of cadets while Janet paced in front of them.
Taking a deep breath she stopped and faced the group, “I don’t know where to begin…what were you thinking? Why didn’t you answer your phones? Where the hell did you get enough fruit to cover Rodney’s yard?” she blurted out.
Cameron started to answer her questions but Sam kicked him in the leg, he looked at her again, she just glared and mouthed…”Not yet.”
“Yes, I know it was Rodney’s house; who else would you pull this kind of stunt on? Sam told me all about the lemon incident from the trip to Atlantis,” she continued, “of all the childish, irresponsible things you could pull and you got caught by the police! Well do you have anything to say for yourselves?”
Cameron glanced at Sam, she nodded that it was okay to talk now, “It was all my idea, Janet. I have a friend who runs a produce warehouse and I thought it would be a good prank to pull on McKay; I’m sorry,” he said sheepishly.
He perked up a bit, “But you have to admit it was good, the look on McKay’s face when he gets home will be priceless,” Cameron said grinning.
Janet walked up to him; she looked up at his face and asked, “Where are your phones?”
Sam spoke up then, “Umm…we left them in Cam’s car.”
Janet moved to stand in front of her partner, “Why?” she asked.
Sam shrugged, “It seemed a good idea at the time,” she answered, looking at the floor instead of Janet.
“A good idea… you thought it was good idea to let me and Daniel, but mostly me, worry about whether you were dead or alive for the past four and half hours!” Janet growled out at her partner.
Sam looked up at her, “I’m sorry, Janet, and I’ll never do anything like this again… without calling you first.” Sam replied with a small grin, as she tried to make Janet smile.
Janet ignored the grin, she moved to stand in front of Teal’c, poking him in the chest she said, “You should know better, Teal’c. Anything these two come up with is bound to lead to trouble. Why did you help them?”
Cameron spoke up before Teal’c could, “Actually he didn’t help…he was the look out,” he paused. “Hey buddy, what happened to those warrior skills? You let us get caught.”
Teal’c ignored the remark, instead he focused on Janet, “I apologize, Dr Frasier. I realized the only way they would learn a lesson from this was to be caught. I did not know it would cause you such worry.”
“Well at least one of you was thinking with some sense,” Janet quipped.
“We’re really sorry we caused all this worry and trouble Janet. I promise it won’t happen again,” Sam said trying to get back in her partner’s good graces.
“Well you did and I’m still angry…you’re sleeping on the couch tonight by the way,” Janet remarked as she turned away from them to leave the room. “And you other two better get ready. I feel like doing complete physicals tomorrow; now go home!”
Janet left the room, leaving the three standing there with semi-stunned looks on their faces. Cameron cleared his throat, “Well, come on, big guy, we’ve got a nice long walk back to my car. Sorry about all this, Sam, and that you have to sleep on the couch tonight.”
“Oh…I’m just glad she didn’t ask how we paid for all that fruit. I would have had to tell her about hacking into Rodney’s bank account,” Sam said grinning, “and as for the couch…give me ten minutes alone with her, she’ll change her mind.”
Cameron laughed aloud and clapped her on the shoulder, “Night Sam…start thinking about next year,” he said grinning as he and Teal’c made their way towards the door.
After letting them out Sam locked up and turned off all the lights, pausing at the foot of the stairs she took a deep breath and starting climbing, she had some groveling to do now.
