Pairing: J'onn and Wally (just friends)

Disclaimer:don't own them, just took em for a spin.
AN: It probably could have been better but I was just happy I was writing today..yay!

For once, Wally decided to take his time as he made his way towards the control room of the Watchtower. Of course, it helped that he was currently stuffing his face with pizza slices from the stacked plate in one hand and didn’t want to drop any. The sounds of the everyday running of the tower came to his ears as the lift doors opened. He strolled slowly, well slow for him, past seated technicians as they monitored the various banks of equipment keeping an eye on the planet below them.

The speedster made his way to the central hub where he found one of the other founding members staring at a control screen. “Hey, Big Green; what’s up?”

Without turning around, J’onn answered, “There appears to be a volcano preparing to erupt in the Pacific.”

“Cool,” Wally said and took a huge bite out of the slice of pizza in his hand. “Have you been here since last night?” he asked while chewing.

The high backed chair slowly turned until the Martian faced his team mate. “Where else would I be?” he answered with a slight furrowing of his heavy brow.

Wally’s head tilted and he gave the Martian a strange look. “Oh, I don’t know…maybe doing something down on the planet,” he remarked as he took another slice from the plate. Waving it in the air he continued, “Have you ever thought about doing something just for the fun of it?”

“I have never understood why humans choose to spend their time in meaningless pursuits,” J’onn replied and swiveled the chair back to face the screen.

“Because that’s why it’s called fun…it doesn’t have to mean anything. You just go with the flow, J’onn,” Wally said and placed a hand on the chair. Spinning it back to face him the speedster continued. “Let all these guys do what they’re paid for and hang out with me for the day,” he said waving the hand holding the now empty plate towards the technicians.

The Martian didn’t answer his team mate for a few moments which caused Wally to begin poking him with a finger. “Come big guy, you know you want to,” the speedster chimed.

With a heavy sigh, J’onn reached a hand up and blocked the offending digit. “Very well, if you are so insistent, I shall come with you,” he stated in a low tone.

“Cool! You won’t regret it, J’onn. I’ll meet you in the hanger in ten minutes,” Wally said and sped away in a blur of red.

The Martian steepled his fingers as he stared at the screen before him. He did not really want to go with Wally but he knew unless he gave into the speedster’s wishes Wally would never cease pestering him. He reached forward and keyed in a message to the lead technician informing him of the change in plans; they were used to the Martian being a fixture around the control area so he thought it best to inform them of his departure. After this was done he rose from the chair and rising into the air, floated away from the console then towards the direction of the hanger bay.

Two hours later J’onn Jones found himself wearing a bulky vest with sensors on it, in a darkened warehouse filled with maze-like corridors. There were several groups of teenagers running wild with large pistols. He saw a blur out of the corner of his eye and turned to face the motion. Wally, who wore an identical vest and civilian clothing, came to a skidding stop in front of the persona J’onn had chosen to wear for the day. “Hey, you’re supposed to be hiding from me, not standing in plain sight,” he said with a grin as he waved his pistol in warning.

“I fail to see the point in this,” J’onn said in a calm voice.

Wally poked at the large green gem in the center of J’onn’s vest with his gun. “F-U-N,” he spelled out. “Think of it as a tactical exercise,” Wally said and, looking around to make sure no teenagers were nearby, sped away in a blur. Shaking his head, J’onn took a deep breath and trotted down the corridor that Wally had disappeared down.

An hour later the pair exited the laser tag arena; Wally’s vest was lit up like a Christmas tree and he had a grumpy look on his face. “I can’t believe you got me every time,” he grumbled.

J’onn inclined his head and replied, “You said to think of it as a tactical exercise. It was quite a task to calculate and be ready for your moves.”

Wally didn’t reply to the statement but he did shrug his shoulders. “Okay then, let’s move on to the next fun thing I have planned,” he said, rubbing his hands together.

Half an hour later the two team mates were seated at a small outdoor café. Wally sat relaxed in his chair with his feet propped in an empty one and J’onn sat rather stiffly next to him. “What about this is fun?” the alien asked.

The speedster gave him a big smile and then glanced at his watch. “Oh, the fun begins in about five minutes, my friend,” he replied.

A waitress soon appeared and placed two frost covered glasses containing frozen concoctions before the two friends. Wally picked his up and spooned a large bite into his mouth. “Mmmm…go on, J’onn try it before it melts,” he said around another mouthful.

The Martian picked up the cold glass and eyed the frozen white stuff, sprinkled liberally with dark flecks and dipped his spoon into it. Taking the gathered spoonful into his mouth the alien was surprised by the frozen treat. “This is very good. What is it?” J’onn asked as he scooped up more.

“An Oreo blast or blizzard, different restaurants have different names for it but it’s made the same,” Wally said as he finished his treat.

“I like this, especially the small dark bits,” J’onn remarked.

“That’s the Oreo part. We’ll pick up some before we go back to the tower,” Wally told him.

Nodding his head, J’onn asked, “Was this the fun you spoke of?”

“Nope…that is,” Wally said motioning with his head towards the end of the street.

J’onn watched as a large group of scantily clad women emerged from a building and began making their way towards the café. He gave Wally a confused look and the speedster spoke in a low voice. “It’s an aerobics class; they come here everyday for the smoothies,” Wally said and grinned. “Think of it as surveillance practice.”

J’onn watched as the red-haired man lowered his sunglasses and watched the women approach. He shook his head slightly and concentrated on finishing his treat before it melted. He would never understand Wally completely but at least he had good taste in desserts.
