“Sam?” the doctor called out as she walked down the hallway.

“Out here!” the reply came back from the direction of the garage.

Janet eased open the partially open door that led from the house into the garage and peered around; she didn’t see the blonde. “Where in here are you?” the doctor said in a loud voice.

“Other side of the van, my dear,” the blonde’s voice answered.

Walking around the van , Janet found her partner seated on the floor next to one of her bikes with various engine parts scattered around her. She was alone which made the doctor raise a question. “Where are our guests?” She saw Sam’s shoulders sag and heard the loud sigh. “What?” Janet asked.

“They kept trying to help me,” Sam paused before she continued in a low voice. “So , I sent them outside…to look for the Easter bunny.”

“You what?!” Janet said in a shocked tone.

“I sent them outside…to look for the Easter bunny,” the blonde said in a louder voice.

“Samantha, you know there is no such thing. They could get into trouble outside and what would Jo and Tara think?” Janet said, her hands on her hips as she gave Sam a stern look.

Sam looked up at her partner and gave her a smile, trying to ease the hard stare she was receiving. “I explained how the Easter bunny hides eggs and candy. They seemed thrilled with the idea, so I told them to stay in the back yard while they searched,” she told the doctor. When Janet raised an eyebrow and continued to stare Sam added, “I did mention that I’d seen some tracks this morning, so they should concentrate the search near the tree house.”

“Don’t you think you should check on them?” Janet asked.

Glancing at her watch Sam hissed in disbelief. “Oh crap. It’s been almost two hours since they left. I was so wrapped up in this I didn’t realize it. I’ll go check on them right now, sweetie,” the blonde replied. Wiping her greasy hands on a nearby towel she rose from the floor and made her way to the door leading into the house.

Janet trailed behind her partner, shaking her head at the blonde’s audacity. Sam could have sent the two animals into the house where she could have kept them occupied until Jo and Tara returned from their shopping trip. She followed Sam out of the house and onto the deck in the backyard. The blonde gazed around the yard and not seeing the two animals called out, “Sina! Chion! Where are you girls?”

There was no sign of movement or any sounds answering the call. Janet spotted something and tugged on Sam’s elbow. “In the tree house,” she said pointing.

“Come on, let’s go see why they didn’t answer,” Sam muttered and they walked down the steps then towards the tree house.

They reached the base of the tree and Sam called out, “We know you’re up there. Drop the ladder.”

The couple heard the scrambling of claws and some excited squeaks. After a few minutes the rope ladder uncoiled from it’s resting spot. The two women gave each other speculative looks and then one by one they climbed up the ladder.
They were met on the small landing that made up the floor of the tree house by a very excited and mud covered critter.

Sina bounced up and down, clapping her paws together. “We did it, Sam! We found him!”

Sam and Janet gave each other odd looks and then Janet asked, “You caught the Easter bunny?”

The mud covered critter nodded eagerly, “He was very hard to find and we almost gave up but Chion spotted him headed for your garden. Come and look,” she said in a high pitched excited voice and tugged on Sam’s pants leg.

They followed Sina into the house part of the tree house and found Chion, equally covered in mud, standing guard over a net covered rabbit. Janet quickly caught the giggle she wanted to loose and Sam just covered her face with her palm and groaned.

“Does that rabbit look familiar?” she muttered in an aside to Janet.

Still trying very hard to control herself, Janet nodded and whispered back, “I need to tell the Petersons we found Mopsy.”

“Is this the bunny you wanted us to find?” Chion asked. “We tried to get him to tell us where the eggs and candy were hidden but he won’t answer,” the small animal added.

Janet couldn’t contain herself any longer and burst out laughing. She leaned into the taller woman beside her and choked out, “I’m letting you handle this since you started it all.”

Sam just groaned into her hand again and muttered, “Do me a favor and run a bath so I can get them clean before Jo and Tara return.”

The doctor stifled another laugh and nodded in answer. She gave the two dirty animals and the floppy eared rabbit another glance and a giggle escaped as she made her way out of the tree house. As she began climbing down the ladder she heard Sam’s voice begin explaining what Easter was really about.
