AN: I let her have a little fun and look what happens....
Teal’c followed behind the replicator as she walked along the corridor, stopping in doorways occasionally to observe the scientists at their work; she never tried to interrupt them just watched. After touring the lab level, they stopped at the elevator.
“Where would you suggest we go now?” she asked the silent man.
“I have found the personnel of this base to be most at ease in the commissary, if you truly wish to observe human behavior we can travel there next,” he told her as the doors opened, allowing the scientists onboard to exit they entered and Teal’c pressed the numbered pad.
As the elevator traveled to its destination, the replicator glanced at the man beside her, his face a mask of stone. If there was anyone whose trust she must gain it was he; if the Jaffa trusted her, then O’Neill would since he valued the warrior’s opinion highly.
“You still do not trust me,” she stated.
Without looking at her he replied, “I believe you have ulterior motives and I have not deciphered what they are yet.”
The doors opened as they reached the level chosen and Teal’c walked out of the car. She stood there for a moment then followed him walking down the corridor to the commissary.
Upon reaching the doors Teal’c entered first, she hesitated for just a second then followed him in. The sounds of conversation trailed off as they stood in the doorway. Many of the base personnel knew of her existence but still it was odd to see a former foe that looked like one of their own walking the corridors, even if she wore civilian clothing and had guards or Teal’c flanking her most of the time.
Teal’c led her over to a corner table where they sat down. Soon the sounds of hushed speaking began; gradually growing louder as many realized the two were not paying attention to the rest of the room.
They sat quietly until Teal’c said out of nowhere, “I will not allow you to harm Samantha Carter or Janet Fraiser.”
A shocked look appeared on her face, “I would sooner cease to function then cause either of them harm; I had no intention of harming Sam until Fifth took control of me,” she told him, knowing that last part was a lie still set uneasy with her; especially after seeing the two women interact.
The Jaffa raised an eyebrow at this statement, “So you blame your actions on outside influence?”
She nodded her eyes never wavering from his, “Yes…when Fifth was destroyed my link with the others was broken; also the program created by Sam has given me new freedoms, the main one being I have control over my own pathways. I am truly an individual now. Have I shown you any reason during my stay as to why I should not be trusted?”
Teal’c thought for a moment, “No…not as of yet. You did assist Dr. Fraiser in the repairing of the damage you caused. I am grateful for that, Samantha Carter is a dear friend to me,” he remarked, “but the other replicators have proven to be formidable foes; there is no reason why I should not consider this of you as well.”
“Do you not think I would make a useful ally?” she asked, amazed the man was speaking freely to her; “I have many abilities that would be useful to you and your team mates,” saying this she morphed into O’Neill, “after all…if I truly wished to cause chaos it would be so easy to do so.”
An airman at the next table dropped his tray as he saw her change shape, she smiled at him then changed back to her own form, “I am sorry I did not mean to startle you,” she told the rattled man.
“No p-p-problem, “ he stuttered then picked up the tray and left rather quickly.
“Are humans always so easily startled?” she asked, finding it to be the perfect opportunity to change subjects.
“Many of the individuals on this base have proven to me over the years that the Tauri are a unique race; however they sometimes do not react to sudden changes very well,” he commented quirking an eyebrow at her.
“Ah yes…change, I shall resist the urge to do that again,” she said grinning slightly, “but that just proves my point, I could have changed form and left this base at any time; I chose not to.”
Teal’c let that comment mull as they once again sat quietly. The replicator turned to watch the interactions between the personnel present. He watched as she stared intently at different groups of people discussing a wide range of topics. Occasionally she would tilt her head as if trying to listen more closely to certain ones; soon she turned back to him.
“I wish to continue with the tour,” she stated.
“Very well, I know of another place you would find interesting,” he told her as they rose from the table and walked towards the exit.
As they walked by the other tables, she heard much whispering, mostly about her it seemed. As Teal’c walked through the doorway she stopped, turning back towards the room, she gave those watching a smile and a nod then followed the Jaffa out.
They traveled down the corridor until reaching a set of wide doors; she could hear the sounds of many voices behind them.
“What is this place?” she asked Teal’c.
“It is the gymnasium, many of the personnel come here to exercise or practice un-armed combat,” he stated, “There is a class being taught at the moment; would you like to observe?”
She nodded and they entered the gym; where she discovered many men and women gathered around a large mat, watching two individuals grapple with each other.
Standing off to one side, they watched as the two combatants tried to gain the upper hand over one another. In a sudden movement, the smaller man shifted his weight, pulling the other off balance; shoving his hip into the larger man, he flipped him onto the mat. Cheers went up as those watching applauded the smaller man’s actions.
“May I participate in the exercise?” the replicator asked the Jaffa.
“You will have an unfair advantage over these students,” replied Teal’c.
“But would it not be instrumental in their learning to attempt to overcome a more powerful opponent,” she remarked.
Teal’c thought on this, she did raise a good point, “Very well, I shall ask if you can join them; but if you cause any injuries there will be consequences,” he told her.
While he went to talk to the instructor, she readied herself. Janet provided her with more of Sam’s clothing but since she did not perspire like humans, she wore the same outfit daily. Having returned the favored sweatshirt to Sam, she chose to wear a tank top with a light hooded jacket over, along with a much worn pair of jeans. She found the feel of the soft material very comfortable.
Removing the jacket, she kicked off the sneakers she wore also, leaving her to stand there in tank top, jeans and bare foot. As she waited for Teal’c to return, she overheard a whispered conversation.
“Whoa…Colonel Carter is looking hot!” an airman commented to his friend.
“That’s not the colonel,” his friend replied.
“Looks like Carter, no wonder half the men on base have the hots for her,” the airman went on to say.
The replicator turned her head to glare at the airman before he could continue; he shut up immediately. Teal’c returned at that moment informing her she could participate. She walked out to stand in the middle of the mat and waited with arms crossed as they decided who would face her.
There was much shuffling of feet and muttering as the students hesitated, none of them moving forward to accept the challenge. Finally, the instructor called out a name, “Williams! Front and center!”
The man who stepped forward was the one who made the comments she overheard. He stepped onto the mat, a cocky grin on his face. She stood still, waiting for him to make a move as he circled around her. Suddenly he moved to make a strike at her back; she quickly stepped aside, causing him to slip past her in a stumble. There were several snickers and off hand remarks from the others as he righted himself and faced her again. He swung a fist towards her head and she ducked under it. He tried another punch but she dodged it also. More remarks were heard from the students; Williams face began to grow red with anger as the comments grew more personal.
“What’s the matter? Afraid to take a punch?” he taunted her.
The replicator cocked her head to the side and grinned at him. This caused him to rush forward in an attempt to knock her down. She held a forearm out straight, catching him in the chest as he came at her and stopped him in his tracks. He threw an arm towards her head and she blocked it with hers, backing up he tried a short kick and she grabbed his foot, twisting until she overbalanced him and he crashed to the floor. Not bothering to stand up Williams crawled off the mat.
“Who is next?” she asked, standing with her arms crossed once more.
One by one, the students came forward to face the double, by the end of fifteen minutes they were all sprawled against the walls nursing various aches and pains, none of them serious though. She made sure not to injure any of them severely, partly because of what Teal’c said to her before and because she really did not want to make extra work for Janet to deal with.
She started to move off the mat when Teal’c stepped forward. Surprised at his actions she asked, “You wish to fight me?”
Teal’c nodded as he took a fighter’s stance and waited for her to make the first move.
She circled the warrior and he turned following her movements. Looking for an opening, she feigned a movement to his left then quickly moved back to the right, taking hold of his arm and pulling him towards her. He twisted causing her to become unbalanced for just a moment. Using this to his advantage Teal’c threw a punch towards her midsection but she quickly sidestepped it and caught his hand. She now had both of his arms caught in her grip, smiling she released him to step back and wait.
Rubbing his arms where she held him, it was now his turn to circle while waiting for the right moment. He feinted to the left, throwing a punch then back, as she moved to counter the punch. He rushed forward grasping her around the waist and tried to throw her to the mat. She twisted in his grasp, raising her arms and brought clenched fists down between his neck and shoulder. There was a loud crack as the sound of bone breaking reverberated through the gym.
Teal’c released her and fell to one knee, “I believe you win this match also,” he calmly stated.
“I did not mean to injure you,” she said helping him to stand, “I attempted to control my strength.”
“I am aware of this, you did control yourself with the students; in the rush of battle one can make mistakes,” Teal’c said as he held the arm stationary.
“Perhaps I should escort you to the infirmary now,” the replicator remarked.
“That would be a wise decision,” agreed Teal’c as they left the mat and walked past the stunned students to leave the gym.
