Summary: Sam wakes..Teal'c gets yelled at..heh
AN: may be a little while before next part..I gotta figure out where I'm going with this now..guh..bleh
After Janet left the infirmary, Teal’c and the replicator sat in silence, the only sounds were those made by the machines attached to the wounded woman or the footsteps of nurses going about their work. Finally, the replicator broke the silence by speaking to the large warrior.
“You do not like me,” she commented to him.
Teal’c lifted an eyebrow at the comment, “The replicators have proven to be formidable foes; I have every reason not to like you,” he stated matter-of-factly.
“Even though I have helped you to destroy those same foes?” she asked.
“You are still a replicator; though you wear the form of my friend and team mate you still are a machine. I believe Dr. Fraiser’s trust in you is misplaced,” he replied rather bluntly.
“Because of my harming Sam?” she questioned him once more.
Before Teal’c could reply, a low groan came from the unconscious form lying in the bed between them. Both quickly stood, Teal’c went in search of a nurse while the replicator moved to stand closer to the waking woman.
“Sam can you hear me?” the replicator asked.
Sam’s brain was busy trying to make the rest of her body wake up; she swore she just heard her own voice ask her a question. She tried to open her eyes…nope not working yet; failing in that she tried to speak but only a groan emerged. ‘Okay…let’s see if I can move my hand,’ she thought. Her right hand twitched, ‘Yes!’ her subconscious yelled.
After the twitch she tried to open her eyes once more, this time she succeeded in cracking them just enough to see herself bending over her. She squeezed them shut again then cracked them again, ‘Nope…not dreaming, that’s me,’ she thought. She tried to speak again but her voice was only a whisper, “Who are you?” she managed to croak.
“Do you not remember me Samantha? I am your replicator double,” the twin replied to the question.
Sam’s eyes grew wide, she remembered now; a sharp pain gripped her chest as she tried to sit up. The replicator placed a hand on her shoulder pushing her back down, “You must lay still Sam,” the double calmly said.
Teal’c returned with a nurse just in time to see the replicator push his friend down; he saw the pained look on her face and reacted to it. Rushing over he grabbed hold of the replicator by the arm and pulled her away from Colonel Carter. She didn’t struggle as he placed another arm around holding her in a bear hug. Janet rushed into the infirmary as this took place.
“Teal’c! What are you doing! Let her go!” Janet yelled as she ran over to stand at the bedside, grasping Sam’s wrist to check her pulse.
“The replicator was attempting to harm Colonel Carter once more,” he informed her.
Janet looked at the double in confusion, “Were you trying to hurt her?”
“There was no nurse present; I was only attempting to do as you ordered, not to let her move when she awakened,” the replicator told her.
“Janet…” a weak voice called from the bed.
Janet leaned down closer to hear Sam speak, “What is it sweetie?” she whispered in Sam’s ear.
“Telling the truth…tried to sit up…stopped me…can I have water…please?” croaked out Sam.
“Ice chips…no water yet,” Janet told her with a smile; she placed a few ice chips in Sam’s open mouth. While Sam was sucking on the chips, the doctor turned back to Teal’c and the replicator.
“Teal’c let her go this instant. She was only doing what I told the nurses to do; Sam just confirmed it,” she ordered the Jaffa. Seeing him hesitate she walked around to stand next to them, “Now Teal’c!”
Slowly he released the replicator from his grip. She stepped away from him, moving to stand next to the bedside once again, a smug look upon her face. He turned to face the small woman beside him, “I apologize Dr. Fraiser, it appeared as if she were harming Colonel Carter; I was unaware of your orders,” he told the doctor.
“I was just arguing with General O'Neill that we should trust her; how can she gain that trust if you jump on her every time she moves?” Janet said with a disgusted tone.
Teal’c bowed his head to her, “Once again I apologize,” he said.
Janet just shook her head, walking back over to stand next to Sam’s bedside, “I understand the need to keep a close watch on her but could you do it from over there, “ she told him pointing to an empty bed two spaces down, “I believe you can still see everything.”
“Very well Dr Fraiser, I will do as you wish,” he replied and went to sit on the bed where he kept a close watch on the replicator.
Janet sighed, turning her attention back to Sam, “Need some more ice?” she asked. Sam gave her a grin as she opened her mouth for more ice chips. Janet laughed, here her partner was, just waking from a serious operation and she still could give those playful grins.
Janet began fussing over Sam; rechecking her vitals, she turned some of the machines next to the bed off since they were not necessary to monitor the woman any longer. Pulling back the bandages to check on the sutures, she looked up to see Sam staring at the incision site.
“I messed up good this time didn’t I?” Sam asked sheepishly, the moisture from the ice helping her vocal chords to come back to life.
“Well you always liked to do things big; now you have a big scar to show for it,” Janet told her with smile, “Any pain or discomfort?”
“Just a little bit…but other than that I’m just peachy,” Sam told the doctor.
The replicator spoke up at that moment, “I wish to apologize once more Sam; I did not mean for this to happen,” she ducked her head and began twisting a section of the blanket with her fingers.
Sam looked up at her double, she saw the anguished look sweep across her face; truly, the replicator felt badly about injuring her. Sam believed this was a very good sign; maybe there was some hope in helping her reach a semblance of humanity.
“I forgive you,” Sam said to her as she reached out to grasp the double’s hand, stopping her fidgeting, “I know it wasn’t you that did this to me, it was Fifth.”
Sam’s eyes widened at her own mention of Fifth, “What happened with the disruptor? Did we fix it? Was Fifth destroyed?” her questions rushed out as she glanced back and forth between the double and Janet.
“I can no longer feel anything through my link with the others,” the replicator stated.
“That’s because the tinkering you two did with the disruptor worked,” Janet told them, “Jack told me the upload was successful and the replicator ship was destroyed.”
Sam let her head fall back into the pillow, a big smile on her face. She turned it to look at the double, “We make a great team,” she commented smugly.
The replicator smiled at the comment, “Yes…we do.”
Janet watched as the two basked in the discovery of their collaboration, both had the same satisfied look on their faces.
Sam look of satisfaction turned to confusion, “Why are you here? I would have thought you’d be locked up in a holding cell?”
“Well…I needed her help in surgery so I sort of gave them no choice; she’s been with me since then,” said the doctor.
The replicator looked at Janet, smiling she replied to Sam’s question, “Janet would not let them detain me. She has been quite helpful in making me feel welcome. I am endeavoring to maintain the trust you have both given me.”
That was when Sam noticed the clothing the double wore looked very familiar; she gave Janet a sideways glance, “Is that my favorite sweatshirt?”
Janet grinned, “I wanted her to feel comfortable,” she said shrugging her shoulders.
“I want that back soon,” she said to the replicator smiling broadly.
“Very well,” the replicator replied as she began to remove the sweatshirt.
Sam reached up grabbing the bottom of the shirt before the double could pull it off, “Hey…I was only joking!” she told the replicator.
That little effort made Sam grimace in pain as the sudden movement pulled at the sutures in her chest. Taking a deep breath she sighed, “Can I get a boost on the meds Doc?” she grinned at Janet.
“Of course, and you need to get some rest now too. You can finish talking with your twin later. I’m sure the two of you have much to discuss; also the general wants to know the full details of exactly what occurred at the alpha site, before he makes a decision about what to do with her,” Janet told her partner as she upped the morphine drip.
“Okay…I’ll rest. Tell Jack I’ll talk to him after a nap,” she told Janet; “We also have to finish fixing your programming if I remember correctly,” she said looking up at the replicator.
“Yes…we were unable to finish with the new changes to my pathways. I am certain another attempt will succeed now that Fifth is no more,” the replicator stated to the now drowsy woman.
“Hmm…yeah…should work now,” Sam replied with a goofy grin, feeling the effects of the morphine making her eyes grow heavy she turned her head towards her partner; “Hey Doc…that’s good stuff…love you,” she mumbled as the drugs overcame her and she drifted off to sleep.
Janet smiled, sighing she leant over placing a kiss to Sam’s forehead; pulling up the blanket around her partner she looked up at the replicator making a motion with her head for her to follow as they left Sam to sleep.
