Well look who decided to come out and play....

I've been trying to get through to you but you've had Xena icons clogging your brain...not to mention Sam and Janet playing around in here too.

"Heh...sorry about that. It's nice to see you're still kicking though...I thought you'd left me."

How could I leave...the story is yet unfinished. We must complete it.

"Well..I promise to take a break from the icons if you co-operate and feed me more plot ideas."

Very well...now post the story update.

"Yes m'am....lol"

Purpose pt 4
and here's the update!

Sam stared at the smiling face of her double, something about that smile sent shivers down her spine; it was her smile but then again it was not. Taking a deep breath, she rose from her position in front of the monitors, allowing the technician to sit back down. Exiting the monitoring room, she walked next door to where her double was; facing the closed door, she took another deep breath and steeled her nerves. Sam motioned for one of the SFs to open the door; upon entering, she found Teal’c in a guard position next to the entryway and her double had once again taken to pacing along the far wall.

The replicator stopped pacing when she noticed Sam in the room, turning to face her double she spoke, “Colonel Carter thank you for allowing me the opportunity to speak with you; please have a seat.” The replicator pulled out one of the chairs and sat, waiting for Sam to do the same.

Sam glanced towards Teal’c as she reached for the other chair. He lifted an eyebrow and inclined his head towards her then moved to stand next to the chair as she sat down to face her double.

“Okay what is so important that you would run away from Fifth and come to us for help? We’re your enemies as well; how did you know we wouldn’t just destroy you as soon as you walked through the gate?” asked Sam.

The replicator smiled at Sam, then began speaking, “I knew that your curiosity would save me from destruction Sam; how could you not resist learning more about me, it seems I was correct in trusting you. I came to your people to warn you about Fifth’s plans. At this moment, he and my brethren are on their way to your planet; his plan is to destroy your world. I wish to stop him.”

Sam stared at the replicator, letting her words sink in, “We have a weapon that can destroy them,” she said after taking a deep breath.

The double tilted her head, “No…you do not. Fifth studied the remains of the replicators your teammates killed: he was able to discover how it affected them, he made adjustments to himself, me and the others so the weapon would not harm us,” stated the replicator.

“You’re telling me this whole time we’ve been threatening you with a weapon that has no effect on you?” Sam said in shock.

“Yes…but I had to prove that I could be trusted; now that you know this, does it not seem a good idea to let me help you in any way I can?” The double remarked.

Sam leaned back in her chair, chewing on her bottom lip she stared at the replicator, after a few minutes she replied, “Just because you haven’t tried anything doesn’t mean we can trust you. I thought all of you were connected, how do we know you’re not a spy sent here by Fifth?”

“I have disconnected myself from the link with the rest of the replicators. If you do not believe me I can show you,” the double replied.

Sam thought about it for a few moments, and then nodded, “Okay…show me.”

Just then, Teal’c spoke up, “Colonel Carter, do you think this is wise? It may be a trap to gain information from you.”

“No…it probably isn’t a wise decision Teal’c, but we need to show her that we trust her and she can trust us,” Sam told him, “Just keep an eye on both of us…okay.”

Teal’c did not seem pleased but he nodded, “Very well,” looking at the replicator he commented, “Any sign of harm being inflicted upon her and I shall find a way to inflict damage upon you.”

“Indeed,” the replicator said with a small grin, “I would not think any thing less from you,” looking at Sam she continued, “take my hand and I shall show you I speak the truth.”

“You mean you don’t have to do that ‘hand in my head’ thing?” asked Sam.

“No…that would inflict pain and I am trying to prove myself to you, it would not be wise to inflict harm upon you,” she replied glancing up at Teal’c.

“Okay then…let’s get this over with,” Sam said as she reached across the table and grasped the hand held out to her.

After a moment of disorientation she found herself in a dark cavernous expanse, the replicator was standing before her, a smile upon her face. “Okay…where are we?” she asked.

“You are in my mind now; I can not lie to you here. Come…I shall show you what you wanted to know,” the double replied.

A bright light flashed and Sam found herself standing in front of a complex grid of circuits; an entire section of the grid appeared dark. “I take it these are the pathways that connect you to the others,” said Sam pointing towards the dark spots.

“Yes…as long as I concentrate on blocking, he can not know anything I do; the link is broken,” the replicator stated.

Sam moved closer to the grid, there was a section that glowed faintly with an iridescent light. “What is this section?” she asked turning to her double.

“Those are the memories I gained from you. Fifth told me they would fade with time but I have not allowed them to,” the replicator replied as she moved to stand beside Sam, “they make me feel human.” The double reached out to touch the grid, images from Sam’s life appeared before them.

Sam watched as old memories of her childhood flashed before her, along with memories of past trips through the gate and then images of her life with Janet and Cassie began to appear. She turned to the replicator, “You know about my relationship with Janet?”

The replicator smiled as she turned to face Sam, “Yes…I know the true nature of your relationship. You have no reason to fear this, I am also aware of the consequences if it were to be discovered by your superiors.”

More images flowed across the grid; they were beginning to become more intimate, private moments shared between her and Janet. Clearing her throat, “Okay…I think that’s enough of those,” she remarked, blushing slightly.

The replicator grinned at her embarrassment, “She seems like a remarkable individual. I would like to meet her if possible.”

“Well…we’ll have to see about that. Just because you have broken the link between yourself and Fifth does not mean I can fully trust you. Why did you do it anyway?” asked Sam.

“Because of this,” the double said as she touched another section of the grid. Images of her exiting the gate and firing upon Sam’s teammates flashed before them. It went on to show her infiltrating the SGC and killing everyone in her path.

“I did not wish for this to happen and if I had stayed with the rest of my brethren Fifth would have made me do this. Only your memories kept his conditioning from taking hold,” the replicator stated in a sad tone.

“You said my memories make you feel human but you’re a machine,” stated Sam.

“Yes…but I wish to be human. I do not wish to be like the others. Is it wrong to feel this way?” the replicator said looking at Sam.

“No…I don’t think so. In fact, I think it is a good thing for us that you do feel this way. If you are really being truthful about wanting to help us I may be able to help rid yourself of all the traces of Fifth’s conditioning,” replied Sam.

This statement made the replicator smile broadly, “Then in return for that I shall do my best to help you defeat Fifth and the others. I can show you the adjustments he made and we can reverse them. However, we must hurry, the link may be broken but I can still sense what they are doing. It will not be long before they reach your world. We must hurry to make the changes,” she stated as the darkness disappeared and they were once more in the interrogation room.

Sam blinked several times, getting her bearings back. Teal’c hovered close by, “Colonel Carter are you unharmed?” he asked.

“Yeah Teal’c…I’m fine, she didn’t hurt me; I believe she is telling us the truth. We need to hurry and make some adjustments to the weapon systems,” Sam said as she rose from the chair, “she’s going to help us do it. Let’s go to one of the labs and get started.” She said this looking at the replicator.

The double rose from her chair and walked around the table to stand next to Sam, “I am ready to assist you,” she stated.

Sam nodded and they exited the room followed by Teal’c and the SFs. As the replicator followed Sam all she could think was that she was one step closer to the real purpose for being there, ‘Soon Janet…soon,’ she thought following Sam down the corridor
