"The Visit" Sam & Vala, Atlantis, G
“Colonel Carter, you have a subspace message from the relay station,” the words echoed in Sam’s ear as she was finishing up her lunch.
“Patch it through to me now,” she replied after swallowing a bite of apple.
The other occupants of the table watched as the expression on the Colonel’s face grew serious. After a few moments she touched the earpiece, ending the transmission. John and Teyla exchanged glances then the Athosian woman asked, “Is there a problem, Colonel?”
“No, no problem, it was just a friend getting in touch with me and letting me know they were coming to visit,“ Sam told her.
“I’m guessing it’s someone from the SGC?” John asked with a raise of his eyebrows.
“Yes, it’s Vala,” Sam replied.
John’s eyes widened and he quickly pushed his chair from the table. Standing up he remarked, “I’ll go make sure all the small stuff is locked up and then I’m going for a little jumper ride.”
Sam tried hard not to chuckle but failed miserably. Waving a hand for him to leave she said, “By all means, John. Have fun.”
John nodded his head to her, then Teyla and quickly walked away from the table, disappearing through an archway leading out into a corridor. Sam laughed softly and rose from her seat, picking up her tray she started to turn away from the table when Teyla spoke up, “Colonel Carter? I assume something occurred the last time Vala paid a visit?”
Sam cocked her head to the side and smiled at the seated woman. “Let’s just say that Vala can be a little pushy at times, especially when she wants something,” she answered.
Teyla gave her a confused look which Sam answered with a waggle of her eyebrows and the Athosian’s lips turned in a crooked grin. “Ah, I see. Maybe we should send Ronon with John?” she suggested.
This made Sam’s eyebrows raise again and Teyla clarified her statement, “If John is gone she might try to get pushy with Ronon. He is not as forgiving when his personal space is threatened.”
Sam pursed her lips together and thought for a few moments. Nodding her head she replied, “That sounds like a good idea. As much as I’d like to see what happens if she tried it, it’s probably best to be on the safe side. You want me to tell him or will you?”
“I believe he is in the gym at this time. I’ll pass on the information to him,” Teyla answered.
“Fine, then I’m off to arrange quarters for her. She should be arriving within the next half hour,” Sam replied and with a smile to Teyla turned away to dispose of her tray.
The Athosian watched their commander walk away and then rose from the table. She had a warning to deliver before their guest arrived.
****
Half an hour later Sam watched as the Stargate plumed to life and its horizon steadied. A figure emerged; they were tugging one of the anti-grav sleds behind them, loaded down with luggage.
Vala looked up, seeing Sam standing on the walkway; she flashed a big smile and waved with her free hand. With a small shake of her head Sam waved back and then turned to walk towards the stairwell. She stepped off of the steps just as her former team mate reached them. “Did you bring enough stuff?” Sam asked with a wave of her hand towards the sled.
With a shrug of her shoulders Vala replied, “I didn’t know how long I’d be staying.”
Sam gave her a look, raising an eyebrow and Vala amended the statement. “Okay, I didn’t know how long you’d let me stay,” she said with a shy grin.
The blond colonel chuckled and replied, “You can stay as long as you behave yourself.”
“Good show then,” Vala said cheerfully and Sam shot her a confused look to which the dark haired woman replied, “I’ve been in England with Daniel.”
Sam nodded her head and muttered a soft, “Ah.”
Showing Vala towards a nearby transporter lift, Sam entered and pressed herself against the back wall, allowing Vala to squeeze the sled in with them. Sam touched a pad on the wall and they were whisked away to the section set aside for guests to Atlantis. “So, why aren’t you still in England with Daniel?” she asked as they reached their destination.
“Oh, some stupid rule about having to report archeological finds to the correct authorities. Daniel thought it best I make myself useful somewhere else,” Vala replied nonchalantly.
Restraining herself from asking what exactly happened in England, Sam stopped in front of a door and waved her hand over the panel. “Here are your quarters,” she said, motioning Vala inside.
Vala trudged in, pulling her luggage. She stopped in the middle of the spacious quarters and smiled widely. “Oh this is so much better than the SGC quarters; oh, there’s even a balcony!” she exclaimed and rushed to look at the view.
Sam watched as the dark haired woman leaned over the railing, peering downwards. “I have to get back to work,” she said in a loud voice. Vala turned back towards her and nodded. “You go do that and I’ll get settled. When I finish, I’ll just take a little walk around,” the alien woman said.
“If you’d like I can assign you a guide. The city is huge and it’s easy to get lost,” Sam told her, inwardly cringing at the thought of Vala wandering the corridors by herself.
Vala waved the suggestion off with her hand. “I’m sure I can find my way around. If not I can get that nice Colonel Sheppard to help me,” she said with a sly grin.
“I’m afraid he’s away on a mission,” Sam informed her.
Vala strode back into the room from her spot on the balcony. A pout formed on her lips and she remarked, ”I was so looking forward to meeting him again, too. Oh well, I’m sure I’ll be fine on my own.” She made a shooing motion towards Sam and said, “Go on, get back to your work and don’t worry about me, Sam.”
Hesitating for a moment, Sam began to say something but stopped then just nodded her head. Turning around she made her way towards the door. As the door opened Vala called out, “Don’t worry, Sam. I promise to behave.”
Sam’s step faltered slightly at the remark but she kept walking. Upon reaching the lift she pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed. “Why do I think this visit is going to be a whole lot more difficult than it should be?” she grumbled as the doors opened and she entered the lift to head back to the control room.

"Try it" Sam/Janet/Vala- R- Trying new things…
“Come on, you have to taste this,” Sam said, holding up a spoon.
Shaking her head emphatically, the dark haired woman grumbled, “No.”
Sam waved the spoon back and forth in front of Vala’s face. “You’ll like it, I swear.”
Vala’s face grimaced in disgust and a soft chuckle sounded from between the women. A hand reached up and took the spoon from Sam’s hand. “Stop pestering her, Samantha. Not everyone shares your fondness for pistachio ice cream,” the doctor remarked as she licked the green ice cream from the spoon.
Poking the smaller woman in the side which made her squirm, Sam commented, “You like it, silly woman.”
“Stop poking the table, blondie and I’ve had plenty of time to accustom myself to the taste,” Janet replied, scooping another spoonful from the pint sitting on her bare stomach.
Vala watched as her two lovers made silly faces at each other. Her lips turned upward in a sly grin and she flicked her spoon towards them. Splatters of chocolate ice cream landed on the two and earned her identical glares.
“What?” she asked innocently.
Sam ran a finger across her chest and licked the chocolate from it. She glanced down at Janet and remarked, “I don’t care if she hates it. She’s about to learn to like it.”
“Why?” Janet asked as she stopped a dribble of melting ice cream from running down her chin with her tongue.
“Because she’s going to be covered in it,” Sam replied with a grin.
Vala gulped loudly and before she could move from the bed a dollop of green landed on her face.

"The Surprise" Sam/Janet- G – “Where Are You?”
A familiar trill from her cell phone made Janet Fraiser pause in her perusal of the latest fashions at her favorite shop in the mall. She reached in her pocket, fished out the noisy object and flipped it open. “You rang,” she answered.
”Where are you?” Sam’s voice asked on the other end.
“The mall, why?” Janet returned as she tried to make out the noises in the background of Sam’s call.
“Oh, no reason; just wondering what you were doing,” the blonde replied and Janet heard a loud crash.
“Sam? Where are you?” Janet asked, her curiosity spiking at each new noise.
“Umm…” Sam’s voice trailed off.
“Samantha Carter, answer me. Where are you?” Janet ordered.
There was another loud crash and Sam quickly responded with, “I have to go. Bye, honey.” And there was silence as the connection was terminated.
Janet stared at the now silent phone in her hand and growled. She punched a few buttons and then raised it up to her ear. She had her own ways of finding out what was going on.
****
Half an hour later Janet pulled into the driveway of the home she shared with the blonde major and stared in shock at the crowd of people gathered in her front yard. She exited her vehicle and made her way over to the crowd, the entire time keeping an eye out for a familiar figure. Pushing her way to the front of the group, many whom she recognized from the base, she was flabbergasted by the sight before her.
The members of SG-1 were gathered in the center of the crowd. They were attempting to fasten a patchwork of metal trellis together, while Sam held the centerpiece for a large fountain steady. “Come on guys, some of you could help us out,” the blonde said loudly to the personnel around them.
“She’s right, ya know. The sooner we get this put together the sooner we can get to the cookout part of this party,” O’Neill added in grumpy voice.
“I’d like to know whose idea this was,” Daniel grunted as he tried to fasten his piece of trellis to the fountain.
“I believe it was Major Carter,” Teal’c said in response to his question.
“Whatever! Would you guys just hurry up! This thing is heavy and I don’t know when Janet will be home,” Sam groaned as she tried to keep the fountain steady.
The crowd of people gathered around them grew quiet as many of them realized the entire reason for the party was standing in their midst. Jack looked up at the sound of quiet and muttered, “Oh crap,” then in a louder voice said, “Oh, Carter?”
Sam’s back was turned to the crowd and her superior, so she didn’t know what was going on. “I kind of have my hands full, Sir,” she said.
Daniel glanced over his shoulder and remarked, “I don’t think speed is of the essence now, Sam.”
“What?” Sam asked and loosed her grip on the granite fountain, letting it tilt at an odd angle.
“I believe this is where the Colonel would say, “We are broke.” Teal’c told her.
“Broke? I think you mean busted, Teal’c,” Sam remarked.
“Broke, busted, whatever…someone better explain what’s going on to me and quickly,” Janet finally chimed in.
“Janet?” Sam’s voice cracked as she said her partner’s name. Slowly she turned around until she faced the smaller brunette and with a shy smile said, “Surprise?”
The doctor crossed her arms and gave her partner one of her hardest stares, but no matter how hard she tried the diminutive physician couldn’t keep a straight face. Her lips turned up in a smile and she shook her head. “You know, there are easier ways to surprise me for my birthday,” she remarked.
Sam shrugged her shoulders and returned the smile. ”I knew you wanted a birdbath for the front yard and I figured now was the best time. I just didn’t know it would be this difficult to put together, even with this many people to help,” the blonde said as she moved away from the jumble of material held up by her team mates.
Janet looped an arm around the taller woman’s waist when Sam stopped by her side. She looked up into sparkling blue eyes and couldn’t help but chuckle. “You four just didn’t have the right person to oversee the project,“ she said.
“Well, Doc? Are you going to kiss her so we can finish building this damn thing? There are cold beers waiting to be drunk and steaks to be cooked,” O’Neill said in a loud voice.
A series of loud whoops and hollers was heard as Janet rose on her tip toes and planted a kiss on Sam’s lips. With a cheeky grin the doctor then smacked the blonde on the rear and remarked, “Now get over there and listen while I tell you four where to put that.”
Sam blushed and began to move away from her partner but before she took another step asked, “How did you know where I was?”
Janet gave her a crooked smile and replied, “I had Walter trace your cell phone. It’s amazing what one can accomplish when the threat of big needles is used.”
Groaning and shaking her head, Sam went back to the task of holding the fountain bowl while Janet ordered her teammates and those standing around on how to install the trellis just as she wanted.

"Final Request" Sam/RepliCarter -R- Desire
“Wake up!” the voice was punctuated by a hard slap to her face as she was jerked up from the floor.
Sam fought the urge to keep her eyes closed but the pain from the blow made her cringe as she was shaken roughly.
“Wake up!” the voice said again.
“What do you want from me now?” the blonde mumbled as her eyes opened.
“Explain,” the voice identical to her’s ordered.
“Explain what?” she asked, trying to fight the wave of dizziness away as the bright light in the cell pounded against her optic nerves. Giving up, she let her body slump and her captor had no choice but to let her full weight fall to the floor once more.
“Explain these feelings,” the familiar voice said from above her.
Sam looked up from her position on the floor and smiled. “And what feelings would those be?” she asked in a taunting tone.
“I ache, I yearn, I want and I don’t understand,” her double stated.
Sam chuckled softly and rolled over onto her back. She stared up at the replicator, the light from the ceiling giving the double a halo which made her chuckle louder. This only made the machine grow more agitated and a blow to the ribs from a foot made Sam curl up in agony as the force cracked a rib.
“Explain!” the machine ordered, once again.
Waving a hand in the air to stop any further actions from her double Sam asked, “What were you thinking about when you had these feelings?”
“The small woman,” stated her double.
Smiling widely, Sam stared up at the replicator. “Ah, the good doctor strikes again.”
The replicator looked down at the original copy of herself. She wore a puzzled frown on her face. “I do not understand,” she stated.
“Neither did I the first time I felt it but in the end it was the best feeling I’d ever had and one I wished I could experience again,” Sam said wistfully.
The machine still wore her puzzled expression as she watched the emotions play across the woman’s face on the floor below her. A single tear escaped from the corner of Sam’s eye and she sighed. “I’d give anything to feel that rush of desire at seeing her enter a room, hear her voice or feel her touch again.”
Cocking her head to the side the machine watched as more tears escaped from the blonde’s eyes and rolled down her cheeks. Kneeling down on one knee she brushed one finger across Sam’s cheek, catching a tear. Red-rimmed blue eyes stared up at her and a choked voice asked, “Let me feel it one more time, please.”
“Will it help explain the feeling to me?” the replicator asked.
Sam nodded her head even though she knew there was no way the machine could ever understand human emotions. But if it was going to be one of the last things she ever experienced then the desire of seeing her love for one last time, even if it was from her own memories, was what she wanted.
The replicator nodded her head and raised a hand over the blonde woman’s head. Sam cringed as the machine’s fingers sank into her forehead and then her world went black.
