Hour 1

Sam crawled out of her sleeping bag and with a sleepy yawn grabbed her boots; sticking her feet in them she then pulled on her jacket and shuffled her way out of the tent. Stretching her arms over her head she saw that Jack and Teal’c were already up, seated close to their campfire.

Walking over to them she caught the MRE as it flew at her, “Here…all that’s left is French toast…sorry,” the colonel said as she sat on a nearby log.

“No problem…Daniel still sleeping?” she asked, covering her mouth to hide another yawn.

“Of course…tried to wake him up but he threw a boot at me, “ Jack muttered.

Sam suppressed a laugh and popped the tab on the MRE to heat up her breakfast.

Hour 2

After finishing her breakfast Sam went to check on the monitoring equipment set up around the camp’s perimeter, making the rounds she returned to input the data into her laptop.

Hour 3

Checking over her findings Sam saw that the energy readings she’d picked up yesterday were now rising. Curious as to what was causing the spikes she was about to suggest a little recon mission to the ruins they were camped near when Daniel appeared at her elbow, “Morning,” he mumbled.

“About time you woke up,“ she said giving him a sideways glance and a nudge to the ribs with her elbow.

“I was up late translating those writings I found on the temple walls,“ he grumbled.

“Anything interesting?” she asked, flipping a few switches on her equipment.

“I may have found the reason for those readings you recorded yesterday,” he told her as he pinched the bridge of his nose.

“I was about to suggest a little trip back over there,” she said and noticing his look asked; “What’s up with that look?”

“We might run into a few problems, the writings said something about tests or trials; those never turn out well,” he said with a sigh.

“Well let’s go tell Jack and let him decide,” she told her friend.

Hour 4

Having drawn the short straw, Sam led the way into the temple panning her P-90 around the large open area; they had been here just the day before but one could never be too careful when exploring alien buildings. Calling an all clear the other members of SG-1 filed into the room behind her and Daniel headed straight for the wall with the writings he’d translated the night before. The others followed him and soon they all stood before the wall, “So…what were these tests these scribblings talked about?” Jack asked with a wave towards the wall.

“It has something to do with these panels,” Daniel replied as he pulled out a notebook to look at his translation.

“You mean one of these panels?” Jack asked as he ran a finger over one of the raised stones.

“No, Jack!” Daniel yelled grabbing for the man’s hand but it was too late, a loud rumbling sound came from around them and suddenly the floor dropped out from underneath their feet.

Hour 5

“Major Carter…Major Carter?”

Sam slowly regained consciousness and with a groan reached a hand up to her head where she felt the stickiness of blood, she opened her eyes to the sight of Teal’c kneeling over her, his face lit up by a flashlight.

“Are you injured any further Major Carter?” he asked as she blinked her eyes.

Slowly flexing her limbs Sam raised to a sitting position, “No, I think I’m fine except for my head,” she told him and hissed when her fingers found the cut where all the blood came from, “Are Jack and Daniel okay?”

“Colonel O’Neill has yet to regain consciousness and Daniel Jackson has a broken arm but is awake,” the warrior stated in a matter of fact tone.

“What about you?” she asked holding a hand out for him to help her up.

“I am unharmed Major Carter,” he said to her and then steadied the woman as she swayed slightly upon reaching her feet, the heavy pack on her back throwing her off center.

“Good, because you may be the one who has to help me get us out of this,” she said gripping her pounding head.

Hour 6

Sam stood shining her flashlight up into the darkness above them, she and Teal’c had already tried to toss a grappling hook up but they couldn’t get it to catch on anything, that or the opening was just to far for them to reach with a throw.

Sighing she walked over to sit next to Daniel who was keeping an eye on Jack who was still out cold. The archeologist cradled his broken arm in its makeshift splint against his body, his jaw set tight from the pain.

“Any luck?” he asked.

“No…and I can’t see the opening either…I’m going to see if I can rig up something to get the hook to the top though,“ she told him as she rummaged around in her back pack, “How’s Jack?”

“His breathing is fine and sometimes it looks like he’s going to wake up but nothing so far…I’m getting worried, he’s been out for almost an hour,” he replied.

“I’ll get us out of here...don’t worry, we’ll get him back to the gate and to the infirmary soon,” she told Daniel.

Daniel watched as she pulled a tool bag from her pack and began taking apart her P-90 by the light of her flashlight. He reached his good arm over and picked up the light, holding it up for her to work by; with mumbled thanks she continued with the task.

Hour 7

Fitting the end of the grappling hook into the gun barrel Sam stood up and walked back to stand under the opening, just as she was about to aim and fire Daniel spoke up, “Is that going to work?”

“Well it will either work or blow up in my face but I really don’t see any other option Daniel,” she told him and taking aim, fired the weapon.

With a loud retort the grappling hook shot out of the barrel and up into the darkness, Sam heard a thunking noise and waited…the hook did not reappear like with their other attempts.

“Alright…seems it worked, well partially…at least the hook is up there now,” she said turning to lay the gun down.

Teal’c grasped the rope trailing from the darkness and slowly pulled, it moved slightly and then stopped, “The rope appears to be anchored Major Carter,” he told her.

“I see that but to what?” she said as she removed her jacket, tossing it on the ground then kneeling next to her pack she found the handheld pulleys used for climbing up the rope.

Daniel watched her attach them and then said, ”Are you sure that’s a good idea?”

“Well I’m the lightest and if its not anchored well enough Teal’c can break my fall…somewhat,” she said giving the Jaffa a small grin.

“I shall endeavor to catch you if that occurs Major Carter,” Teal’c said with a nod of his head to her.

“Alright then…wish me luck,” she said and gripping the pulleys, pulled back, putting her weight onto the rope; it didn’t move and she slowly began inching upwards.

“Be careful Sam,“ Daniel told her and then watched as she made her way up the wall.

Hour 8

It was slow going as she eased her way up the rope, luckily the stone walls were rough, so she had some sort of footing to grip as she inched her way upwards. She would feel the rope give every now and then, at these times she would grow still, waiting to see if the rope held. Her arms were beginning to burn from the strain of climbing but she knew their only chance to get out of the trap was up to her, they weren’t scheduled to report in until the end of the day and she knew Jack needed to be looked after soon. Feeling the rope slip she paused, waiting a few seconds she took a deep breath and began moving upwards once again.

Hour 9

With a loud groan Sam pulled herself up and over the edge of the hole using her forearms, rolling over on her side then onto her back she took several deep breaths and rubbed her hands over her tired muscles, trying to keep them from cramping.

Sitting up she leaned towards the hole and peering into the darkness could barely make out the flashlights shining at the bottom, “Holy Hannah! How did we survive that fall?” she muttered in shock at the distance.

“I’m at the top,“ she called out, “give me a few minutes to anchor the rope better.”

She heard Daniel reply, “Jack’s waking up!”

“Good…it’ll be easier to get him out now!” she called back and then rose from the floor, pulling her light out of her side pocket she looked for the end of the rope with the hook.

Hour 10

Teal’c stood behind her as they pulled on the rope, it had taken them both to pull Jack up from the trap and now they were working on getting Daniel out; her arms were never going to forgive her for this she thought as the top of his head appeared out of the hole. With a few final pulls he was sitting on the edge and Sam moved to help him stand then get the harness off of him.

“Damn that was a long way up,” Daniel remarked.

“You don’t have to tell me that,” Sam commented as she rubbed her arms.

“Where did the hook land?” he asked and Sam led him over to two huge blocks of stone, they were separated by a gap of about four inches.

“Right between those,” she said, shining her flashlight between them showing him the groove worked into the stone from her initial climb up the rope.

Daniel stared at her with an open-mouthed shocked look on his face, “It was slipping the whole time you climbed up it?”

“Yup…I got really lucky,” Sam said with a small grin as she clapped him on his back and walked away to check on the now awake Colonel.

Daniel shook his head and followed after her.

Hour 11

After making a travois to lay Jack on…under protest of course, they made their way back to the campsite where Sam and Teal’c began breaking the camp down, loading all their equipment onto the small rover they brought with them just for that purpose and soon they were ready for the trek back to the Gate.

Teal’c pulled the travois with Daniel walking beside him and Sam walked behind, keeping an eye out for anything unusual. Jack lay with his eyes closed and his cap tugged down close, blocking the sun from his face. At one point he cracked an eye open to look at Sam, “Hey, Carter,“ he said loudly.

“Sir?” she asked moving up to walk alongside him.

“Good job,” he said looking up at her.

“I didn’t do it alone Sir, if Teal’c had been hurt I never would have been able to pull you all out,” she told him.

“Yeah but you could have gone for help though,” he replied and then added “you’re going to have to make up one of those do-hickies to keep with us…comes in handy.”

“Yes, Sir…one grappling do-hickie coming up,” she said to him with a grin.

Hour 12

“Unscheduled off world activation…unscheduled off world activation…medical team to the embarkation room…medical team to the embarkation room,” Walter’s voice sounded over the speaker.

The gate whooshed to life and the rover appeared first, followed by Daniel cradling his arm along with Teal’c pulling the travois then Sam bringing up the rear. Walking down the ramp she paused as the gate’s horizon vanished and then continuing on sat down on the steps at the end of the ramp with her head bowed.

The medical team rushed into the embarkation room led by Janet, moving to Jack first she ordered them to place him on a gurney and sent him on his way to the infirmary then she checked on Daniel, sending him away with a nurse; with a look at Teal’c who just shook his head she finally moved to kneel down in front of Sam and with a slim hand pulled her chin up until she could see into her eyes, “Hey you, anything pressing you need to tell me or is that blood on your head from the only injury you have?”

“Just my head…and I may have a pulled muscle or two, nothing a hot bath won’t fix,” Sam told the doctor.

“Let me be the judge of that, now come on let’s get you to the infirmary,“ Janet replied with a small smile to her partner and rising from the floor pulled Sam up from the steps to follow her out of the room.

Hour 13

Sitting on a bed in the infirmary Sam waited as Janet examined Jack and Daniel, her arms were still cramping and she was beginning to feel the sting of a pulled leg muscle. Janet walked over and pulling the curtain around the bed faced her dirt streaked partner.

“How are Daniel and Jack?” Sam asked as Janet gripped her chin and held her head steady, using the penlight to check her pupil’s responses.

“Jack has a nasty concussion and a fractured ankle, his MRIs came back clean so I’ll keep him overnight for observation,” Janet replied as she motioned for Sam to take her shirt off, “the break was clean on Daniel’s arm so I put him in a cast and sent him home to rest.”

Janet felt along Sam’s arms and then over her upper body, “Anything hurt when I do that?” she asked.

“Nope…just sore muscles mostly though I may sport some good bruises tomorrow,“ Sam said with a grin.

“Bend over and let me check out that hard head of yours,” Janet said with a hint of amusement.

Janet moved the hair away from the wound and checked the depth, “I don’t think you need stitches, just be careful when you wash your hair; come back after you’ve cleaned up and I’ll put a couple of steer strips on it so it stays closed,” she told Sam.

“Okay,” Sam replied and eased off the bed, she groaned as she put her shirt back on, “I really will need a long soak tonight.”

“Well…I’m sure I can help you ease some of the tension knotted up in those muscles with a good rubdown,” Janet told her with a crooked grin on her face.

“If I can get out of the tub,“ Sam said returning the grin as she limped past Janet, who swatted her on the behind; “Oww, you hit a bruise,” grumbled Sam.

“Go get cleaned up Major,” Janet told her ignoring the grumbled remark.

Hour 14

Standing under the hot shower Sam let time slip away from her and moving as fast as her tired body would let her she dried off and pulled on some sweats then limped out of the locker room headed for the infirmary.

Hour 15

Since Jack was out of commission and Daniel had been sent home to rest Sam along with Teal’c sat at the briefing table waiting on General Hammond so they could give their reports. Sam tried not to scratch at the strips Janet placed on the top of her head to keep the cut closed while she waited.

The General walked into the room and taking a seat motioned for Sam to begin talking. She explained what they had found and the circumstances leading up to the teams little mishap. Going on to tell him it would be prudent for them to return to the planet so she could search for the mysterious power source again, “It may be some device of the Ancients placed on the planet before the civilization died off, Sir,” she explained.

“I agree Major but we’ll send another team to check it out, as of now SG-1 is on leave until Dr. Jackson and Colonel O’Neill heal,” the General told her.

Sam began to protest but he stopped her, “If they find anything that needs your help I’ll let you check it out but until then I suggest you get some rest; Dr. Jackson told me about that climb you made,” he said to her, “and about you helping Teal’c to pull them both up, you’re going to be feeling that for the next few days.”

Sam nodded, not wanting to argue with her commanding officer but she knew it was partially her godfather speaking as well, “Yes, Sir.”

“Well then, leave me your reports and I expect you to go home now,” he said giving her a knowing look.

“Yes, Sir, heading straight home,” she replied to his look.

They rose from the table and Sam waited for Hammond to leave and then she sat back down with a heavy sigh. Teal’c stood next to her chair, “You do not wish for time off Major Carter?”

“My body does but my brain doesn’t Teal’c, I really want to know what was causing those readings I picked up,” she grumbled.

“I am sure the General will keep you informed of any findings the other teams discover,” the warrior told her.

“I know…it’s just not the same though,” she muttered and rising slowly from the table she limped towards the door.

With a raise of his eyebrow at the comment Teal’c didn’t say anything but just followed her out of the room.

Hour 16

Making her way to her lab she decided to finish up a few reports and check on the simulations she had running. After some time of sitting hunched over her keyboard she suppressed a yawn and easing off the stool, shut every thing down then left the lab to check on Jack and see what Janet was up to also.

Hour 17

“Sam…Sam…wake up.”

She slowly opened her eyes to find Janet leaning over her, stretching she muttered a few choice words and then smiled up at the doctor, “Hey, is your shift over?”

“Almost…I thought I’d better come wake you up though, this couch can’t be very comfortable for your sore body,” Janet said moving over to her desk.

“I was tired and I wanted to be close to you,” Sam said as she eased up from the couch, “but you’re right, that rubdown is sounding really good right about now,” she added, walking over to stand behind Janet’s chair.

Janet looked up at her, “Well give me about forty-five minutes to finish up my daily reports and I’ll take care of that,” the doctor said with a grin.

Sam leaned over and placed a soft kiss on her partner’s lips, “Mmmm…looking forward to it hon,” she said standing up, “I think I’m going to head home and start soaking.”

“Good idea…I’ll pick up something for dinner on the way home and I’ll see you in an hour or so,” Janet told her.

“Sounds great…see you at home,” Sam remarked and limped towards the door.

“Are you sure I don’t need to take some x-rays, you’re limping pretty badly now,” Janet said before she could leave the room.

“It’s just a pulled muscle, all I need is that rubdown,” Sam replied with a wink and limped out the door.

Hour 18

Arriving home Sam made her way into the house and after turning on some lights downstairs slowly climbed the stairs then limped down the hall to their bedroom. Heading straight for the bathroom she turned the water on to fill the tub while she undressed, walking back into the bedroom she thought about sitting on the bed but it had been murder on her body climbing out of her car; so she kicked her shoes off and shoved them towards the closet then tugged the sweatshirt over her head, tossing it towards the closet as well, it was followed by her sweatpants along with her underclothes.

Walking back into the bathroom she stepped in and eased herself down into the half-filled tub, adding a little cold to the hot she waited until it filled a little more then turned it off then leaned back, letting her body rest in the steaming water.

Hour 19

The sound of the shower running woke her from the light sleep she’d fallen under and with a playful grin she sat up in the tub, turning on the hot water for a minute then cutting it off.

“Hey…cut that out!” Janet yelled from the shower.

“Sorry!” she called back and with a soft chuckle began stretching her body, the soak helped she thought rising from the tub and grabbing a nearby towel from the rack.

The shower stopped as she was drying and Janet stepped out, “That was mean,” she said with a shake of her finger at her grinning partner.

Sam laughed and walked over to drape a clean towel around the doctor, “I said I was sorry,” she said placing a kiss on Janet’s forehead, “When did you get home?”

“About thirty minutes ago, I came up here and you were out like a light but the water was still warm so I just decided to take a shower before I woke you,” Janet replied a she dried off, “How hot did you have that water?”

“If I were a lobster I’d be ready to serve,” Sam joked, “ but I feel better, not quite so sore.”

Janet walked past her headed for the bedroom, “Then I guess you don’t need that rubdown now,” she remarked walking out the door.

“I said I wasn’t quite so sore,” Sam called out after her and she heard Janet laugh at the comment.

Hour 20

Stretched out on the bed Sam finished off the carton of dumplings and with a satisfied but quiet burp sat it back on the tray sitting between them.

“You weren’t hungry were you?” Janet asked a she twisted noodles around the end of her chopsticks and lifted them to her mouth.

“Gimme a break…I expelled lots of energy today and besides after two days of MREs that was heaven,” Sam replied with a grin, reaching for an egg roll.

Janet slapped her hand away, “That’s the last one and you’ve already had three,” she told her partner.

“I’ll split it with you,” Sam said, giving Janet a puppy dog look.

“Fine,“ Janet grumbled but she couldn’t stop the smile appearing on her face.

With a triumphant smile Sam broke the egg roll in half and gave Janet one part then leaned back against the headboard, happily eating the other half.

Hour 21

Sam popped a DVD into the player then limped back over to the bed, laying down she reclined against Janet’s smaller body and used her as a prop.

Janet brought her arms up around Sam and gave her a squeeze, “What happened to wanting a rubdown?”

“Well I don’t have to be anywhere tomorrow…do you?” Sam asked turning to look up at Janet.

“No…actually I have the next three days off,” Janet replied, kissing her on the nose.

“Okay then…movie then rubdown, I’m okay for right now…you’re comfy,” Sam remarked and returned the nose kiss.

Janet chuckled at her partner and they both settled back to watch the movie.

Hour 22

Sometime before the movie ended, Janet began slowly massaging Sam’s shoulders and neck which caused her to let out a soft groan.

“I want to finish the movie,” she said softly.

“You can…I’m just getting a head start,” Janet whispered in her ear as she continued kneading the tight muscles under her slim fingers.

“No fair…you’re distracting me from what’s happening on the TV,” Sam grumbled then hissed when Janet hit a sore spot.

“Not my fault you’re easily distracted,” Janet murmured but eased up on the pressure she applied with her hands.

Hour 23

The ends credit began rolling and Sam clicked the TV off with the remote, relaxing back in Janet’s arms she sighed, “Okay…full body time…if I can move,” she said, with a little groan she sat up and tugged off her t-shirt then shimmied out of her boxers.

Laying on her stomach, stretched almost diagonally across the bed she waited as Janet got up to find the oil and soon felt the warm hands of the doctor running over her back, working the oil into strained muscles.

Janet slowly moved her hands to each part of her partner’s body, from her neck to her strained shoulders and arms then began working on her legs; pressing her fingers into the tight muscles which earned her several low groans from Sam.

“You’re going to put me to sleep,” Sam mumbled.

Janet leaned over to whisper in her ear, “Well at least you’ll sleep comfortably.”

“Yup…one big wet noodle,” Sam joked and laughed softly.

The doctor just smiled down at her prone partner as she continued with the massage, tonight wasn’t about sex…it was about making Sam feel better.

Hour 24

Janet ran the towel over Sam’s bare body, rubbing the excess oil off, “Alright sweetie…all done,” she said in Sam’s ear and placed a kiss on her shoulder.

“Don’t want to move,” mumbled Sam.

“You have to move, you’re taking up the entire bed stretched out like that,” Janet told her.

“Nope…there’s room for you right here,” Sam said lifting an arm on her right side, “just big enough for one small doctor.”

Janet laughed but removed her robe and climbed onto the bed where Sam rolled over on her side and after she lay down, placed her raised arm around the doctor’s waist. Pulling her partner close to her body Sam whispered, “See perfect fit,” she said softly, placing a kiss on the back of Janet’s neck.

“What if we get cold?” Janet asked.

Sam reached behind her and grabbed a handful of bedspread, pulling it over their bodies she replied, “Problem solved…now sleep.”

With a soft giggle Janet settled back into Sam’s grip, her head pillowed on her partner’s outstretched arm, the warm exhale of Sam’s breath ghosting across her neck from where her head rested and both women soon drifted off to sleep…another long day finally over.
