Daniel wandered past one of the large tents set up to hold Sam’s monitoring equipment as he reached the end of the tent a loud crash came from inside it along with a string of colorful curses. Ever the curious one, he turned around and walked back, sticking his head through the tent opening where he saw Sam kneeling on the ground gathering up what used to be one of her laptops.

“Problems?” he asked.

“No…just a little mishap,” she grumbled, then let out a heavy sigh, “I can fix it.”

“Okay then,” Daniel said and started to pull his head out of the tent when Sam spoke again.

“Did you ever think fate was against you?” she said.

“What do you mean?” he asked, stepping inside the tent.

Gathering up the bits and pieces Sam stood, laying them on the small worktable she sat on her stool and sighed again, “Do you realize I’ve been with Janet for almost four years now and we haven’t spent a Valentine’s together in that whole time.”

“Really?” her friend asked as he pulled up another stool and sat beside the table.

“Yes…really, I’ve been off world every time,” she grumbled.

“Well you make plans when you get back don’t you?” he asked, propping his elbows on the table.

“It’s not the same somehow Daniel…just not the same,” she told him, a small frown on her face as she sorted through the smashed laptop.

Daniel thought for a few moments before he replied, “That laptop took the brunt of your frustration didn’t it Sam.”

“I thought better the laptop then one of you,” she told him with a small half smile.

Daniel chuckled, “Well thanks for that then; is this why you’ve been sulking in here for the past two days?”

She gave him a shocked look, “I do not sulk.”

The archeologist cleared his throat and hummed, “Mm-huh,” giving her a knowing look.

“Okay maybe I have been sulking, “ she admitted, “It’s just not fair, you get to spend time with Jack.”

“Umm…well…I….” Daniel stuttered.

“Oh stop trying to hide it Daniel…you’re much worse at trying to hide all the looks and smiles I see you giving each other then I ever was with Janet,” Sam said poking him in the arm.

“We’re that bad huh?” he asked, a blush covering his cheeks.

“Oh yeah…your both goners, although Jack will never admit it,” she said giving him a crooked grin.

“Well…okay, you’re right it’s not fair for you and Janet not to be together on Valentine’s,” he admitted.

“Yep…now since I’ve gotten that off my chest I need to fix this laptop,” she told him.

“Okay if you need anything just yell,” Daniel said, realizing she didn’t want to talk about the subject anymore; he stood up from the stool and walked towards the opening, “I’ll let you know when dinner is ready.”

“I should be finished by then…see you later,” she said as she bent over the pieces trying to see what she could salvage.

Daniel watched as she busied herself with the repair and he walked out of the tent; spotting Jack across the clearing he suddenly got an idea and made his way over to discuss it with the other man.

*****************************

A couple of hours later Jack stuck his head through the tent opening, “Hey Carter…I need you to go meet the MALP, they’re sending some more equipment through,” he told her.

“Why can’t one of you meet it?” she said, not wanting to stop her work.

“Because Teal’c is cooking and Daniel stumbled across some weird markings on that stone outcrop behind camp. He needs me to play guard dog…don’t want one of those nasty little critters we spotted the other night to munch on him,” he told her; “So are you going or will it just sit there overnight?”

Muttering under her breath Sam stood up, “I’ll go,” she sighed.

“Great…they should be sending it through just about the time it will take you to reach the Gate…see you back here in a little while, “ Jack said and disappeared from the opening.

Grabbing her vest and P-90, Sam walked out of the tent, “Weird markings my ass, “ she grumbled as she began walking towards the direction of the Gate.

************************

A half hour of walking later she reached the Stargate just as the chevrons lit up and with it’s characteristic whoosh the gate came to life. A couple of minutes later the front end of a MALP came through the shimmering blue horizon, as it cleared the pool a figure stepped through the Gate along with the machine.

Sam shook her head not believing she was seeing who she thought.

Janet walked down the stone ramp, following the machine as the Gate closed and came to a stop next to the DHD along with the MALP; “Hi,” she said with a smile to her stunned partner.

“What…how…why?” Sam stuttered out.

Shrugging her shoulders, “General Hammond came to the infirmary and said you needed me for a minor emergency…but by the look on your face along with the questions I guess there’s not one,” the doctor said.

Sam laughed, “Not at the moment but you may need to fix Daniel and Jack’s ribs when I get through hugging them,” moving close to pull Janet into a tight hug, “I guess this means you’re staying overnight, “ Sam said in the smaller woman’s ear when she spotted the extra gear on the MALP over her shoulder.

“Guess so…help me carry my stuff to camp,” Janet said giving the taller woman a quick kiss as she pulled back from the hug.

Sam moved to gather up some of the gear when she spotted a large cooler on the back of the MALP, curious at the contents she set down the sleeping bag in her hands and opened the container, “Wow,” she said softly.

Hearing the comment Janet walked up to look into the box, she saw several foil covered objects and the smell wafting from the cooler was simply delicious, “I think I’m going to have to fix more than their ribs, “ she said grinning at Sam, “might have to repair their egos when I get through layering praises on them.”

“Not if I get to them first, “ Sam remarked, pulling out a bottle of wine from another smaller cooler, “although I think they did this for themselves just as much as us, there’s enough here for a small army.”

Janet removed a note from inside the cooler, giggling she handed it to Sam for her to read, “I don’t believe this,” the blonde muttered as she read the note.

“Who knew the General had it in him…the big softie, “ Janet said.

“I’ll have to show this to Daniel…I don’t think he realized Uncle George knew about him and Jack, “ Sam told her partner with a grin.

“Well…leave all of this on the MALP and we’ll take the whole thing back with us,” Janet said, tossing her gear back on the machine.

“Okay,” Sam agreed as she picked up the gear she’d removed, placing it back on the MALP and then she unhooked the remote from its spot, pushing a button to make the machine roll forward.

Holding her free hand out to the doctor who grabbed a hold of it, the two women followed behind the machine on their way back to camp. Sam stopped for a second, letting go of the doctor’s hand to pull Janet close to her and laying her arm over the doctor’s shoulders they then began walking again, “Happy Valentine’s Day,” she said looking down at the doctor as they walked.

“It’s definitely a happier day than I had planned sweetie…much better now that we’re together for it,” Janet replied giving her taller partner a smile.

The two women continued on their way to camp, where they planned to heap praises and a little surprise on the two cupids waiting there.
