sinadino...which was Cassie,phonecall,fruit and flowerbed...totally random things but I made them work...now I go sleep again..bleh
The mid-morning sun shone down upon the two women as they worked in one of the many flowerbeds scattered throughout the large backyard. Sam knelt beside the doctor as they worked to clear away the old growth to plant new flowers and shrubs for the coming year.
“Okay…I don’t think this belongs here,” Sam said picking up an old bone she uncovered.
“No…last time I checked this flowerbed was just geraniums and posies,” Janet replied with a grin, taking the bone from Sam’s hand she whistled and a small brown dog ran around from the side of the house.
He came to a stop beside the doctor, his tail wagging and tongue hanging out as he panted; “Sit Jack,” Janet told him. The little dog obeyed and she shook the bone at him, ”Stop burying these in my flowers you little scamp,” she scolded. The brown dog whined and jumped up to lick her face, “Gah…okay take the bone and scoot,” Janet said laughing as she watched him run off, disappearing under the back deck with his bone.
She used her t-shirt to wipe the slobber from her face and turned to look at Sam who was trying to contain a laugh, “What’s so funny?”
“I still can’t believe Cassie named him after the Colonel,” the blonde said, finally loosing her battle she burst out laughing.
“I thought it was rather fitting actually…since he gave him to her,” Janet replied.
“It still cracks me up,” Sam said and Janet just shrugged, returning to her task of pulling out old flowers and weeds.
Sam watched her work for a moment, ’and I think I’m jealous of him because he gets attention from you and I don’t,’ she thought then with a small sigh began pulling up weeds again.
Reaching to pull up a withered plant her hand was slapped away from its task; “Ah ah…that’s a flower Sam,” Janet told her.
“But its dead,” Sam said giving her a confused look, “isn’t it?”
“It will put back out so just leave it alone,” Janet replied, ”I thought you had plants?”
“I have inside plants…you’re the expert on outside plants my friend,” Sam told her with smile as she moved away to pull up something she knew was a weed.
Janet watched her work and sighed, ‘Friend…is that all you’ll ever think of me as?’ the doctor thought as she watched the blonde clear away the old growth.
Shaking her head Janet picked up a tiny shovel and began digging holes for new plants. Her actions were halted when the sound of a cell phone ringing came from beside her, putting down the shovel she pulled off her work gloves and picked up her phone.
“Hello…Hi Jack,” she said, when Sam heard her CO’s name mentioned she stopped her work and sat up, curious as to why he would be calling the doctor.
“I’m sure I can find use for them if you don’t want them Jack,” Janet said, “Yes it is a little short notice but I think I can come up with someone to go with me…okay…sure…thanks…bye.”
“What was that all about?” Sam asked.
Before Janet could explain Sam’s phone rang, she fished it from her back pocket and answered, “Hello?…Hi Daniel…no, I don’t have plans for tonight why?…Are you sure…that’s quite an expensive place Daniel…alright if you insist…yeah I can think of someone to take…no problem….and thank you…bye.”
“Okay I’ll tell you about my weird phone call if you tell me about yours,” Sam said looking at Janet and grinning.
“Mine was Jack wanting to know if I wanted two theatre tickets for tonight that he won off the radio and yours,” Janet said, raising an eyebrow and waiting.
“Was Daniel wanting to know if I wanted a reservation he made at that new Italian place for tonight, he even offered to pay for dinner since he had to give them his credit card number to hold the table,” Sam replied.
Just then Cassie ran out onto the back deck, “Hey Mom! Uncle Jack wants to know if I can come over for movie night with him and Teal’c,” she called out.
The two women eyed each other, both blushed slightly ducking their heads and Sam said softly, ”I think we’ve been set up.”
Clearing her throat Janet replied, “It sure looks that way.”
“Mom…Can I go?” Cassie called out again.
Janet turned away from Sam to answer her daughter, ”Yes…you can go but no junk food! Take some fruit with you to snack on!” she called back to the girl.
Cassie groaned but answered, “Yes Mom!” and she disappeared back into the house.
The doctor turned back to look at Sam, “So…you think they are tired of us dancing around the subject?”
Sam shrugged, ”What subject?” she asked blushing slightly and looking at the ground.
“Oh…you…me…us,” Janet told her, ”or have I been imagining things?”
Twisting some grass in her hands Sam refused to answer, keeping her head ducked down she just shrugged her shoulders. A slim hand reached over to lift her chin and blue eyes met brown; she tried to turn her head but Janet wouldn’t let her, “Sam…am I imagining things?” the doctor asked in a soft voice.
Gazing into soft brown eyes Sam swallowed the lump in her throat and replied, “No.”
The admission was met with a wide smile from the doctor that made her entire face light up, “Well then…Samantha Carter would you like to go to the theatre with me tonight?”
“Only if you’ll go to dinner with me later Janet Fraiser,” Sam replied with a smile of her own.
“Most definitely…I believe we have some things to talk about,” Janet told her, finally releasing her grip on Sam’s chin.
“Oh yeah…definitely,” Sam echoed.
Janet grinned, “But until then we have flowerbeds to re-plant…now get to work missy,” she said swatting at Sam with her gloves.
Laughing Sam replied, “Yes Ma’am,” and moved to continue with her task.
****************
Inside the house Cassie watched her two favorite people work side by side, they had moved closer to one another and she could see them giving each other smiles and shy looks. She picked up the phone, dialing a number she waited for the person on the other end to pick up.
“Hey Uncle Jack…yeah I think it worked…”
