Walking in silence the two women soon reached the precinct and as they entered the building Olivia asked, “So…you really are good with that Beretta aren’t you?”

Sam nodded and gave her a smile, “There’s a reason I have a sharpshooter’s medal on my dress blues.”

“Want to stop by the precinct range before we have that talk?” Liv asked, motioning toward a set of doors.

“Sure…nothing like firing off a few rounds to ease the tension,” Sam replied as they walked through the swinging doors into the squad room.

Glancing around as she followed the detective into the room, Sam saw several groupings of desks and other scattered officers as they worked; heads turned to look at the two women as Liv led her over to a couple of desks where another male detective sat.

Elliot looked up at the two women, “I wondered if you were going to make it back from lunch on time…this time,“ he said with a grin.

“Ha ha El,” Liv said as she pulled her jacket off, “Sam Carter this is Elliot Stabler…my oh so funny work partner,” she told the woman standing next to her.

Elliot stood up holding a hand out to Sam, “Nice to meet you and don’t pay any attention to her; she’s just jealous of my rugged looks.”

Sam laughed, shaking his hand, “Nice to meet you Detective,” she noticed the tattoo on his forearm, “Marines?”

“Yeah…you know the military?” he asked.

“I’m Air Force,” Sam replied.

“Well now…what do we have here? What is it with you and beautiful women Olivia?” A gangly man with dark glasses asked as he walked up to stand beside Elliot, “Are you finally bringing me someone to play with?”

“No John…Sam this is John Munch our resident skeptic and conspiracy theorist,” Liv told her.

Munch shook the hand held out by the blond woman, “Did I just hear you say you were in the Air Force?”

“John…don’t start …please,“ Olivia said sighing heavily.

“What…here is the perfect opportunity to ask a few important questions,” he said, rocking back on his heels and smiling at Sam.

“But…” Liv began and Sam stopped her with a raised hand, “It’s no big deal…I’ll answer a few questions.” She grabbed a nearby chair, swiveled it around and sat with her arms resting on the back, looking up at Munch she said, “Hit me with your best shot.”

Both Olivia and Elliot let out a groan as John pulled a chair over, then sat and began peppering their visitor with fast questions. The two detectives sat down, watching and listening as Sam responded to the questions.

“What do you do in the Air Force?”

“I’m an astrophysicist, working with deep space radar telemetry.”

This response made John perk up, “Does Area 51 actually have an alien spacecraft?”

With a serious face Sam answered, “Yes.”

“Ah ha! Do they also have little green aliens they are experimenting on?” he asked eyeing her over the rim of his glasses.

Still keeping her face serious Sam replied, “They’re not green…they’re grey and no they aren’t experimenting on them.”

Munch raised his eyebrows at the reply and then he laughed, “You’re just telling me what I want to hear aren’t you?”

Sam grinned, “Maybe,” she replied.

The detective threw up his hands, “See this is why I don’t trust anyone who works for the government,” he blurted out.

Sam laughed and the other two watching detectives joined in, Munch shook his head, rising from his chair he muttered, “I’ll never get straight answers from you will I?”

Shrugging her shoulders, Sam replied, “Straight is a relative term…there are no straight answers as far as I’m concerned.”

This answer caused Munch to smile and open his mouth to ask another question but he was stopped by the arrival of his partner. The black man grabbed a hold of Munch’s arm and said, “Come on we have lead on that peeping tom…you can ask stupid questions later.”

“Fin Tutuola,” he said holding a hand out for Sam to shake, “You have to excuse him…he watches way too much X-files.”

Sam grinned, “Nice to meet you and he wasn’t bothering me,” she told the man.

“Well if you don’t stop him…he’ll never shut up,” Fin told her and then he turned back to his partner, “well…are you coming?”

“Fine…let’s go; but I have more to ask you,” Munch said shaking a finger at the seated woman.

“Sorry today was your only chance to question the expert,” Sam said grinning.

“Oh well…it was nice to meet you anyway,” John said then he and Fin started walking out of squad room as they left Sam heard John speak to his partner, “You have the worst timing in the world,” and Fin replied, “Don’t make me smack your skinny ass.”

“Are they always like that?” Sam asked Olivia who just nodded.

Elliot pushed away from his desk, “As much as I’d like to stay and chat…I have a court appearance to make,” he said standing up and grabbing his suit jacket, “Will the pair of you be around later?”

Liv shook her head, “No…since we don’t have any outstanding cases I’ll probably take off soon; I’m going to carry Sam on a little tour of the city,” she told her partner.

“Okay then…well it was nice to meet you Sam; don’t let her get you into trouble today,” he joked and Liv tossed a pen at him, dodging it he waved and left the squad room.

When they were finally alone, Liv leaned over, “You were telling John the truth weren’t you?” she asked Sam.

“Yes...how did you know?” Sam said giving her a confused look.

“It was your body language; it’s what made me realize both you and Janet were hiding something. Alex noticed it as well but she’s not as persistent as I am…well except when she has someone on the stand,” Liv told her friend.

“Ahh…that would explain the looks you’ve been giving me; I thought you were checking me out,” Sam said with a smile.

Olivia laughed, “No…I’m very happy with Alex thank you…but you and Janet both are very beautiful, I think the two of you make a great couple.”

“Thanks…you and Alex aren’t so bad yourselves,” Sam said with a wiggle of her eyebrows causing Liv to laugh again.

Regaining her composure Liv told Sam, “Let me finish up some paperwork and then I’ll give you that little tour; then we can head to the shooting range, after that how do a couple of beers and a game of pool sound.”

“Sounds great actually, I’ll just sit here quietly while you finish your work,” Sam told the detective and then she stood up from the chair to move out of the walkway, taking a seat across from Liv at Elliot’s desk.

Sometime later, after Sam had successfully built a little pyramid out of paperclips to pass the time, Liv rose from her desk, “Okay all done…still want that tour?”

Moving the little sculpture to sit in the middle of Elliot’s desk Sam replied, “Nah…we can skip it if you want and go straight to the range.”

“Alright let me tell the Captain I’m leaving and we can head out,” Liv told her and then walked over to a doorway not far from her desk. Sam heard her talking to someone and then she walked back, grabbing her jacket from the chair, “All set…let’s go.”

Sam scribbled something on a post-it and stuck it to the pyramid, then rose from the desk; Liv gave her an odd look motioning towards the sculpture, “What is that?”

A grinning Sam replied, “Just a little ’Sam was here’ gift for Elliot to find” she said shrugging, “something I do when I’m waiting.”

Shaking her head at the grinning woman Liv turned to walk out of the room and Sam trailed behind her; the two women heading off to the precinct’s shooting range for a little gunplay.

************************************

Across town in a little boutique Alex suggested they visit, the doctor and the lawyer were browsing through elegant dresses. Janet hoped to find something suitable for her and Sam to wear that evening to the fundraiser; she had done her part explaining several things to Alex about the true nature of hers’ and Sam’s jobs before they left the bistro.

Janet knew she wasn’t that great of a storyteller so once she finished outlining the facts about the Stargate program and the Goa’uld to the lawyer she waited for her reaction. Alex sat there for a few moments and then shook her head, trying to digest all that she had just been told.

“So…you’re telling me the government has had this program running for sometime now and we actually visit other worlds by using this stargate; also that a woman I went to school with and have known for years is actually a host for some alien species?” she stated in question form to the doctor.

Nodding her head Janet replied, “You don’t believe me do you?”

“Oh I know you’re telling the truth…I didn’t move up so quickly in my profession’s ranks without learning a few tricks, being able to read body language and tone of voice is an important part of a lawyer’s job; besides that Liv knew the two of you were hiding something big but I told her if you wanted to tell us you would. It’s just taking a few minutes to sink in that’s all,” Alex told the woman.

“I’m not sure what Sam has planned for tonight yet but if we run into any legal snags she thought it was best that we have a little back-up in the matter; both you and Olivia seemed the most logical choice so she received clearance for us to tell you these things. We would appreciate it greatly if you would keep them to yourselves,” Janet told her.

“So Sam is telling Olivia pretty much the same thing you just told me?” asked Alex.

“Yes…although I’m sure she’ll go into greater detail than I did; she tends to get carried away explaining things when the gate is the subject,” Janet replied with a smile as she thought of Sam getting all geeky and technical in front of Olivia.

“Well you can trust us to keep the secret; frankly I don’t think anyone would believe us if we did tell them, well maybe Munch…but then he’s a rather odd fellow anyway,” Alex remarked.

Janet gave her a confused look and Alex waved it off, “I’ll explain later…now let’s go shopping, it will help give me time to mull over all this information more,” she told the doctor and they rose from the table to head off on their shopping trip.

Which was why Janet now found herself sorting through the gowns on the rack in front of her; Alex hadn’t been joking when she said shopping helped her to think. While they browsed through different shops she would occasionally ask Janet a question concerning what she’d been told and the doctor tried to answer as best as possible; explaining that Sam really was the best one to answer some of them seeing that she dealt mostly with medical matters.

“Well then…the two of you will just have to come over to our place for a light supper before we go to the fundraiser and I can pick her brain,” Alex said with a smile to the doctor, “Liv makes a great pasta dish.”

Janet chuckled as she remembered the resulting conversation from that remark, finding out it was the detective who did most of the cooking for the two. Alex had laughed at Janet’s comment about it must be a blonde thing when she told her of Sam’s disastrous attempts at cooking.

“Hey Janet,” Alex called out, snapping the doctor back to the present as she turned around to see her friend holding up a gorgeous blue gown, “Don’t you think this would look great on Sam?”

Janet studied the gown, it was long sleeved, with a low v-neck and the color would make her partner’s blue eyes practically glow; plus there was the added factor it had a back to it so she wouldn’t worry about her scars showing.

“Liv told you about her back didn’t she?” Janet asked as she fingered the sheer material.

Alex nodded, “Yes…but I’m not going to pry and I told her not to either.”

Janet sighed, “Thank you, she really doesn’t like to talk about it…anyway, I think this would be perfect and it would fit her just great.”

“Then it’s settled…now we have to find something for you to wear,” Alex said tossing the dress over her arm and venturing back into the racks of garments to search for the perfect gown for Janet.

After a short time they succeeded in finding something for Janet to wear in the form of a sleek green sheath that stopped at mid thigh along with a nice red scoop-necked gown for Alex; paying for the items the two women then left the store to go hunt for shoes to match their purchases. Walking down the crowded sidewalk Janet suddenly felt the hairs on the back of her neck raise and she turned to see several large men following them. Grabbing hold of Alex’s elbow she ushered the lawyer into a nearby alleyway where they ducked behind a dumpster.

“What’s wrong?” Alex asked in a hushed tone.

“We’re being followed,” Janet replied and then gave Alex her bags to hold as she reached for her purse.

Pulling out the zat Janet pushed the button on the side activating the weapon and listened closely to see if they were followed. Alex’s eyes widened at the sight of the strange weapon but she remained quiet as Janet peeked around the corner of the dumpster. She saw two men standing in the entrance, there was no sign of the third man she’d seen; they began walking into the alley and as they moved closer a voice called out, “Dr. Fraiser I suggest you drop the weapon or I will be forced to injure your new friend.”

Janet turned to see the third man not far from where she and Alex were and he had a gun trained on Alex. Not wanting to take the chance of him beating her to the shot Janet closed the zat, tossing it on the ground she held up her hands.

“Very smart of you Doctor; now if you two ladies would be so inclined to follow me there’s someone who would like to speak with you,” the man said, motioning with the gun for the two of them to move.

The two woman walked out from behind the dumpster to be grabbed by the other men as the one holding the gun moved closer, reaching down to pick up the fallen zat he turned, walking back down the alley then with a little shove from the men holding them Alex and Janet followed close behind. They soon came to a car and the man ushered them into it then took a seat in the front with the driver.

“Where are you taking us?” Janet asked.

“To meet an old friend of yours Dr. Fraiser and in a way one of yours also Ms Cabot,” the man replied.

Janet looked at Alex who still clutched their bags in her lap, “I’m sorry,” she told the lawyer.

“Is this something that happens often to you?” Alex asked in a calm voice.

“Actually it’s a first…don’t worry I’m sure we’ll be okay; if Sam doesn’t hear from us she’ll know what happened, she was expecting us to be followed. We’ll just have to wait and see how this plays out,” Janet told the lawyer.

Alex nodded, “Wait and see huh?”

Janet replied, “Yes...wait and see.”

The two women grew quiet as the car moved into traffic, carrying them to a meeting with whom Janet knew all too well.

**********************************

The two women entered the bar, Liv was still amazed over what had just happened at the range; she pointed to a table over in the corner next to an open pool table and while Sam made her way to it she stopped at the bar, ordering them two beers then followed after the blonde.

When they were seated she took a drink from her bottle and chuckled, “I can’t believe you did that twice,” she remarked.

Sam grinned, pulling a rolled up paper from her pocket, she unrolled it to hold up the picture of the human shaped target with a huge smiley face shot out in the head area, “I thought it was funny and I had to do it twice so I could have one to carry home with me,” she said rather smugly.

“But signing the first one and leaving it tacked up on the bulletin board in the precinct was priceless,” Liv said laughing, “They will be trying to duplicate it forever.”

“Hey I had to leave a calling card,” Sam replied and took a drink from her beer, “besides that was nothing…you should see what I can do with a P-90 and a series of multiple targets.”

Liv shook her head, “You’re just full of surprises Sam Carter…speaking of…don’t you have some things to tell me about?”

“Ah…yes I do; now since you know I’m speaking truthfully about things just listen and then I’ll answer any questions you have when I’m done,” Sam told the detective.

Liv nodded and then listened as Sam launched into a brief history of the Stargate program and her involvement in it, explaining the principles behind the gate in layman’s terms as not to overfill the detective’s head with geek speak. She then told the detective of her trips to different worlds as a member of SG-1 and of the threat posed by the Goa’uld; when she reached the reason for telling the detective about all of this Olivia held up a hand stopping her story, “There’s one of these things inside of Pamela?”

“Yes…her name is Hathor and I thought she was dead actually…I have no clue how she survived the last encounter we had with her or why she’s here in New York,” Sam told her.

“So why don’t you just get the rest of your team here and you guys go catch her?” Liv asked.

“Because she has the ability to control men; in fact the first time we met she took control of the SGC through them; Janet and I along with and the few female personnel stationed on the base managed to foil her plans, but she escaped through the gate,” explained Sam.

Liv took another drink from her beer, she sat quietly for a little while and then spoke, “Okay what do you need me to help you with?”

“You don’t have any questions other than that?” Sam asked raising an eyebrow and looking at the detective rather skeptically.

“Nope…if I can believe some of the things people do to one another than I can believe this…besides I trust you,” the detective replied.

“Alright this is what I’ve come up with,” Sam began and launched into a detailed telling of the plan she’d thought up.

After several minutes she stopped letting the detective digest the plan, finally Liv spoke, ”Well that sounds like it should work…if not I’m sure I could always find a reason to arrest her if all else fails.”

“My thoughts exactly…it was the main reason I wanted to involve you and Alex; if there was no other way I would need your help for that,” Sam told her.

The detective nodded and then glanced at her watch, “I think we need to skip that game of pool…it’s getting close to five and we have two lovely women to go meet,” she told Sam, finishing off her beer and standing.

Sam grinned, “I’ll give you a rain check on the game…but you probably want to pass on it, “ she said standing up.

“Let me guess…it’s something else you do flawlessly,” Liv said to her.

“Yep…it wouldn’t be a fair match,” Sam replied flashing the detective a crooked smile as she walked past her towards the entrance.

Shaking her head and laughing softly Liv followed the blonde towards the door; the pair exited the bar and pulled up short when they saw a limo parked in front of the establishment. Two large men appeared, grabbing hold of them before they could react; the window on the limo slid down and an echoing voice said, “I suggest the both of you get into the car Captain Carter…if you want to see your partners alive again.”

Shooting each other looks, Sam just nodded to Olivia and they climbed into the limo when another man came round the car then opened the door for them. Settling into the back seat Sam saw the woman known to the public as Pamela Turner seated across from them, “Where are Janet and Alex,” she asked in a serious tone.

“Well hello to you too Captain,” the woman answered smugly, her eyes glowing with a golden light and her voice echoing with the tone of a possessed host.

“It’s Major now and you didn’t answer my question…where are they Hathor?” Sam replied.

“Congratulations on your promotion then…Major; as to where your partners are they are my guests, if you wish to see them alive again I need a favor from you,” Hathor said rather haughty sounding.

“Why you…” Olivia said moving forward suddenly but Sam stopped her, pulling her back in the seat; Liv didn’t know what the device on the woman’s hand could do but she was well versed in its effects and she really didn’t want to find out what it could do in an enclosed space. She gave the detective a stern look and shook her head as Liv began to say something.

“What do you want?” Sam asked, her arm still holding Liv against the seat.

“I need access to the Stargate of course; my transportation to this world no longer functions and I would like for you to get me that access Major; when that happens you may have your partners back…unharmed,” Hathor told the women.

“How do I know this isn’t some trick; that you really do have them?” questioned Sam.

Picking an object up from the seat next to her Hathor tossed it to Sam; catching it she looked down and saw the little painting Janet bought to give to Jack earlier in the day. She gripped the painting so tightly she felt the frame give slightly and then looked back up at the Goa’uld seated across from her, “Alright…but you’ll have to give me time to set it up and I want to see them to know they are okay,” she told Hathor.

With a nod of her head Hathor replied, “I’ll give you until tonight to arrange things Major Carter and as for seeing them, come to the fundraiser this evening as planned; they will be there.” The Goa’uld tapped on the glass behind her head, “I believe the garment purchased this afternoon was meant for you to wear tonight; I thought it best if I give it to you,” she told Sam.

The door opened and Sam saw one of the men standing outside with a shopping bag in his hand, she looked back at Hathor and with a hard glare said, “If you have harmed them in anyway the deal is off and I’ll kill you.”

“I shall keep my word if you keep yours Major…it was nice chatting with you and the lovely detective, until tonight then,” she said smirking and motioning for them to leave.

Sam gave Olivia a shove, pushing her to move out the door; when they stood up the blonde took the bag from the man and then they watched as he climbed into the open door then the limo pulled away from the curb, leaving them watching it disappear into the traffic.

“Son of a bitch!” Liv yelled, ‘”Why didn’t you let me throttle her!”

“Because she was wearing a hand device and I’ve been on the receiving end of one of those things too many times…I didn’t want to find out what would happen in that small of a space Olivia,” Sam told her, “Just calm down…this only changes things slightly.”

“Slightly….changes things slightly? She has our partners hostage, how can this change things only slightly?” Liv asked her voice rising in volume.

Pinching the bridge of her nose with her free hand Sam sighed, “Just give me a little time to make some adjustments to the plan; now come on I think I have phone call to make.”

“You can do it from my place and get ready there too; does this happen often to you?” she asked as they began walking.

“Off world all the time…here only once and to Janet never,” Sam told her, “Don’t worry…we’ll get them back tonight.”

Olivia said nothing else to the blonde woman walking next to her, she just shook her head and muttered curses under her breath as they stopped at the corner then hailed a taxi to travel to the detective’s home quicker.

*******************************

Meanwhile across town in an elegant penthouse suite, Janet and Alex were waiting for their host to appear. Alex sat on the couch while the doctor paced back and forth in front of the huge picture window; she glanced out of it occasionally, realizing if the situation were different she really could learn to enjoy the view of the city the window afforded.

“What’s going to happen now?” Alex asked the doctor.

Janet stopped her pacing and turned to the lawyer, “I don’t know but I’m assuming she wants something from us,” she said sighing as she came over to sit down next to Alex.

Just then the penthouse elevator opened and the woman known as Pamela Turner walked out, flanked by two large men, she sauntered over to sit in a chair opposite the two women; letting her eyes turn golden the woman gave them a smile.

“Dr. Fraiser…Alexandra…it’s so nice of you to join me,” she purred in an echoing voice.

“Like we had a choice in the matter,” Alex said sitting up straight, “you realize I could bring charges against you for kidnapping because of this.”

“Ahh…but I don’t think that will happen now will it Doctor,” the Goa’uld stated her eyes traveling to rest on the Janet.

“No and you know that Hathor,” Janet replied giving the alien being a hard stare, “What do you want from us?”

“From you nothing…from the lovely Major Carter a way off of this planet,” Hathor replied, “you are just the means I will use to acquire that assistance.”

“Olivia does not deal with hostage takers,“ Alex remarked.

“No but Sam will to get me back,” Janet sighed placing a hand on Alex’s arm, “Liv will have no choice but to help her.”

Hathor watched as the two women spoke softly to one another, “Yes…she agreed with my demands and will have arrangements made by this evening; I assured her you were unharmed of course, in fact, you will see them tonight at the fundraiser. I will keep my word and allow her to see that you are unharmed,” she told the two women.

“You’ve spoken to her already?” Janet asked.

“Yes…after my men brought you here I paid them a little visit, it was so nice to see the lovely detective again,” she said eyeing Alex with a crooked grin on her face, “and I must say the two of you have excellent taste in women.”

“What exactly are you doing in New York Hathor? According to the Colonel you were killed,” Janet asked, crossing her arms and waiting for an explanation.

“Ahh…the Asgard are not the only ones to have perfected cloning Doctor; O’Neill killed my clone and after a suitable waiting period I made my way to a hidden Al’qesh then left the planet. As to why I chose to return to Earth…let’s just say I needed to find suitable breeding material for my new Jaffa,” the Goa’uld replied with a smug air about her as she glanced towards the two large men off to the side of her chair.

“But why here and why choose this woman as a host?” Janet asked; if the Goa’uld wanted to gloat she might as well get some answers from her in the process.

“My other body was injured past my ability to heal when my ship crashed off the coast of Maine and I ringed to the nearest place I could; the structure belonged to this Turner woman,“ Hathor told the doctor, “It was just my luck she happened to be in residence at the time along with several male companions.”

“So the last few months Pamela has been tearing up the town it was you?” Alex asked.

The woman smiled wickedly, “I’m known as the goddess of love in many religions for a reason my dear, her proclivities made inhabiting this body quite exciting,” the Goa’uld replied with a flash of her golden eyes, “it was really no trouble to keep up the façade of this Pamela…she has very good tastes in companions; both male and female. Although it was the men I sought, the women have just been a way to spend my time.”

Hathor rose from the chair, “Now I shall leave you ladies to get ready for this evening,” she said, waving a hand at one of her companions he walked out of the room and reappeared soon carrying several bags, “I believe these were the outfits you acquired for this evening; you will find everything you need to prepare in the other room, along with a selection of footwear since my men stopped your shopping trip rather abruptly…I took the liberty of providing Major Carter with hers’. In fact, I can’t wait to see how she looks in it, you have excellent taste in clothing Alexandra,” Hathor told her with a wicked smile.

The man set the bags in the chair and moved to stand by the elevator, pressing the button to open the doors; “Until tonight ladies,” the Goa’uld said as she moved to walk into the open elevator car and with a nod of her head to them the doors closed, leaving the two women to mull over all they had just learned.

“So that’s a Goa’uld?” Alex asked, leaning back into the couch.

“Yes…lucky for us she’s one of the more tame ones, although she does have a mean streak or so Sam told me,” Janet replied, standing up to rummage through their shopping bags.

“What are you doing?” Alex asked the doctor.

“Well since we’ve nothing better to do but wait…I’m going to start getting ready for tonight; it will take my mind off of wondering what plan Sam has come up with to get us back but not give her what she wants,” Janet told her as she pulled her dress out of a bag.

“So she’s not going to let her have access to the stargate?” Alex asked, standing to walk over to the chair.

Janet gave her a look, raising an eyebrow she replied, “There’s no way she would do that…we’ll just have to wait and see what happens tonight, hopefully I’ll get the chance to speak with her to find out what she has planned.”

“You guys do a lot of waiting don’t you?” Alex said with a small laugh.

“Yes…we do; now come on let’s see what all she has in the other room,” Janet replied and walked towards a doorway leading into another room.

Alex found her dress and sighed, shaking her head she followed the doctor, “Wait and see, she says… I don’t like waiting,” she grumbled.

*******************************

After a brief stop by the hotel so Sam could pick up a few things and a decision not to make that phone call just yet, the pair made their way to the apartment shared by Olivia and Alex. Liv opened the door, ushering Sam into the foyer then followed her in, tossing her keys onto a side table. Sam followed as the detective walked past her into the living room, turning on several lamps. The Air Force major set the bags and the briefcase on the couch then glanced around the spacious room, “Wow…this is nice,” she said.

“Thanks…it was Alex’s…I moved in with her since we decided my place was just way too small for all her stuff and mine,” Liv told her.

“Makes sense,” Sam said as she began going through the shopping bag, pulling out the blue gown she groaned and shook her head, “Oh this is so not going to work.”

“What’s wrong with it,” Liv asked.

“Well for one thing it’s form fitting…where am I supposed to hide a weapon with this on?” she asked, holding the gown up to her body.

“I have a thigh holster you can use, “ Liv told her, ‘”and a smaller gun.”

“That solves that problem but not this one,” Sam said, laying the dress down and opening the briefcase, reveling the alien weapon to the detective.

“What is that?” Liv asked as Sam picked the zat up.

“A Zat’nik’tel,” Sam replied and when Olivia gave her a confused look she said, ”zat gun for short…you have anything you need to get rid off, say some trash or boxes, anything you don’t want anymore.”

Liv thought for a moment and then disappeared into the kitchen, she came back out carrying an espresso machine, “It’s broken and I don’t want to pay to get it fixed; it’s just taking up counter space now,” she said placing the machine on the coffee table.

Sam picked the drink maker up and placed it on the floor, backing up she pressed the activation button on the zat; Olivia’s eyes widened at the little noise and movement as the weapon powered up. Pointing the zat at the machine Sam said, “One shot stuns,” and she fired the weapon emitting a blue ray which engulfed the broken machine; “Two shots kill,” she said firing again, “and three shots makes it go poof,” she said as the third shot crackled around the appliance and it disappeared.

“Whoa,” Liv muttered as Sam turned to face her, “handy little weapon.”

“See that’s the problem…it’s not so little, kind of bulky actually; where am I going to conceal it wearing that,” Sam said pointing at the dress.

Liv thought for a moment the spoke, “You wear the dress and I’ll find something to wear so I can carry that along with my sidearm.”

“Why do I have to wear the dress?” Sam asked in a disgruntled tone.

“Because you…wearing that… just might give us the distraction we need to make our move tonight,” Liv told her with a crooked grin.

“Not fair…but okay; remind me to thank Alex for the dress after this is over with,” Sam said sighing.

“What makes you think Alex chose it?” Liv asked her brow furrowing.

Sam laughed, “Because it looks like something she’d want to see you in...that’s why,” she said shooting the detective a look.

“Touché,“ Liv replied with a grin, “alright let me go find something to wear, you can use the shower first while I look.”

Sam picked up the dress and the small bag of things she’d grabbed from the hotel, following the detective into the bedroom to prepare for the evening.

**********************************

While Sam showered, Olivia went through her closet, finding several items that would work she tossed them onto the bed and then waited for her turn to get cleaned up. Sam walked out of the steamy bathroom wrapped in a towel to find Liv sitting on the bed, tapping her foot impatiently, “Did you save me some hot water?” she asked playfully.

“Hey I had to steam it up…had to get the wrinkles out of the dress,” replied Sam, holding up the blue gown.

“I’m just kidding,” Liv said, hopping up from the bed she walked past the towel clad woman, “be out in a jiffy,” and then she closed the door.

Shaking her head quickly and toweling it dry Sam finished drying the rest of her body off then sorting through her bag found her underwear, she looked at the dress then back to the items in her hand and stuffed them back in the bag; there was no way she could wear anything under that gown, sighing she picked it up and pulling it over her head, wriggled it down her long frame.

After several minutes of adjusting the fit she stood in front of the long mirror attached to the closet door, “Damn,” she said, letting out a soft whistle.

“I’ll second that damn and raise you an oh my god,” she heard from behind her, turning around she found Olivia standing in the bathroom doorway in a robe.

“Not bad huh?” Sam said twirling around and showing off the gown. The sheer blue material stopped just above her ankles, a long slit in the side stopped at mid thigh showing off her toned legs and the material hugged her curves like a second skin, it gathered at her chest just enough to provide support while the deep v-neck teased the viewer with flashes of cleavage.

“You’re definitely going to turn heads in that outfit Sam…Alex does have good taste,” Liv said grinning.

“Oh yeah,” Sam replied, turning back to the mirror and running her hands over the material, “I need that thigh holster now.”

Liv moved out of the doorway and walked over to a bedside table, she opened a drawer, pulling out the holster then tossed it to Sam, “I’ll get you the gun after I get dressed,” she said.

“Gotcha,” Sam replied as she walked into the living room to let Olivia get ready.

A short time later Liv walked out of the bedroom and Sam let out a soft whistle, “Oooo…very Bond looking,” she said running an eye over Liv’s tuxedo clad frame.

“Well it’s the only thing I had that would let me carry my gun and the zat; but I need you to help me with the tie, Alex always does it for me,” Liv said.

“No problem,” Sam replied, moving to stand before the detective as she slipped her jacket off.

After a couple of minutes Sam backed up, “All done,” she said, moving to the couch where she picked up a holster for the zat and handed to Liv.

The detective took it from her and pulled it on, making a few adjustments until it set on her just right and then Sam handed her the zat; she put it in the holster, making a few more adjustments until satisfied with the feel of the harness and weapon she then pulled her jacket back on. Walking back into the bedroom she pulled a lockbox off of the closet shelf and returned to the living room, where she opened the box, pulling out a small handgun she handed it to Sam.

The blonde checked the chambers, finding the weapon to be loaded she bent over, running a hand through the slit in the side of the dress and pulled it aside until she could place the gun in the holster attached to her inner leg, just below her thigh. Standing up she walked a few steps, satisfied with the placement of the weapon she then gave Liv a smile, “Well my dear…it seems we are ready to go save our women.”

“If I may have the pleasure Major,” Liv said holding out an arm to Sam.

“You may,” replied Sam with a grin as she took hold of the detective’s arm and picking up her coat from the couch the two women made their way to the front door; exiting the apartment off to save their partners.

*************************************

The limousine pulled up before the building, a large tuxedoed man exited from the passenger side in the front and walked to open the rear door. Exiting from the car were two women, the tall blonde in the red dress and the shorter auburn-haired woman in green stood waiting as the third woman dressed in a black sheath climbed out of the car; she nodded at them and then the three walked into the building flanked by the woman’s bodyguards.

They entered the ballroom and made their way to a table where Hathor motioned for Alex and Janet to take a seat, “If you ladies wish for any refreshments just tell John,” she said motioning to the man standing behind them, “I must play my part and flitter through the crowd; perhaps your partners will show soon and we can end this little arrangement quickly.” With that said she turned and looped a jewelry clad arm through her other bodyguard’s arm, waltzing away from the table.

“Where are they?” Janet asked as she glanced around the room, trying to find her partner in the crowd of well dressed people.

“It’s still early yet…we never show up at the beginning of these things,” Alex said as she did the same thing Janet was doing.

“Well you would think they would this one time,” Janet muttered and then she froze, “Oh my,” she said breathlessly.

“What?” asked Alex looking at Janet who just pointed towards the entrance; she turned to look and repeated Janet’s “Oh my.”

There standing in the doorway were their partners; Sam stood with her arm draped through Olivia’s, as they scanned the room trying to spot the two women they had come for. They made quite the couple with Sam in her form-fitting gown which showed off her figure and assets so well paired with Liv in her fitted tuxedo, her hair slicked back and standing tall beside the blonde attached to her arm.

“Damn they look hot,” muttered Janet.

“I told you that dress was perfect for her,” Alex remarked, “and Olivia always looks good in a tux.”

“Mmhuh,” Janet mumbled as she raised a hand, catching her partner’s eye.

She saw Sam give her a nod and then duck her head down to whisper something in Olivia’s ear; the couple moved away from the doorway and in the opposite direction from the table. “Where are they going?" Janet heard Alex mutter and she turned to face her, “Just give them some time…they know where we are now,” the doctor told her.

Strolling across the room, the couple made their way to the bar and ordering drinks they leaned against it, running an eye over the crowd before them. When their drinks appeared, Liv picked them up handing Sam her martini then taking a sip from her scotch and soda she glanced sideways, speaking in a low voice, “Okay we know they are okay…now what do we do?” she asked the woman next to her.

Taking a small sip from the glass in her hand, Sam replied in the same low tone, “Well as far as I can tell there are only two of those big goons here with Hathor, the one escorting her around,” she said nodding towards the woman who was laughing with a couple across the room, “and the one standing behind Alex and Janet.”

“And what does that mean?” Liv asked, eyeing the huge man standing behind her partner and Janet.

“It means we may have to only shoot two people other than Hathor,” Sam replied with a small smile, “if you use your gun aim for their stomachs just to be on the safe side.”

“Why?“ Sam just shot her an exasperated look and Liv shrugged, “Gotcha, so do we wait for her to come to us or do we make the first move?” Liv asked.

“Oh so now you want to ask me all the questions,” Sam grumbled, “just wait…the night is still young.”

Puffing out a breath Liv gave Sam a narrow-eyed look but remained silent as they stood finishing their drinks; before long their wait was rewarded as Hathor made her way over to the bar, arm still looped through her bodyguards.

Detaching herself from him she squeezed between the pair, ordering a drink she then turned to stand between them and ran an eye over both of their forms, “Ladies…I must say you’re both looking rather scrumptious tonight; that dress is amazing Major Carter, you wear it very well and you detective,” she said eyeing Liv, “you’re quite the dashing figure in a tuxedo.”

Olivia growled under breath, “Just keep your hands to yourself tonight…bitch.”

“Oooo and Alexandra allows you to kiss her with that mouth,” Hathor said smirking at the detective as she ran a metal encased finger down Liv’s arm.

Having been told by Sam what the jeweled bracelet could actually do, Liv bit back her next remark but glared at the alien, her eyes narrowing in controlled anger.

“Stop playing around Pamela,” Sam said, emphasizing the host’s name, “I want to talk to Janet.”

“As you can see they are both unharmed,” Hathor told the blonde next to her as she motioned towards the two seated women.

“That doesn’t mean you haven’t done anything to them…you forget I know what those devices can do,” Sam told her in a serious tone.

“Very well…what of our arrangement?” Hathor asked.

“As soon as I know they are okay then we’ll talk about that,” replied Sam.

“Then be my guest…“ Hathor replied, “in fact, I’ll allow you to dance with them; will that be sufficient enough time for you to chat?”

“That will be fine,“ Sam said motioning for Olivia to walk away from the bar and she followed after her.

They made their way over to the table where their partners were seated, the bodyguard moved to stop them but as he glanced towards the bar Hathor waved him away and the two women approached their partners, holding out their hands for them to take. Not a word was said as they escorted the ladies onto the dance floor, but anyone watching could see the tension suddenly vanish from the petite auburn-haired woman and the taller long-haired blonde as they were engulfed in their dance partner’s arms.

Not saying anything yet, Sam just tightened her grip around Janet’s waist as they moved across the floor together in a slow shuffle; laying her head on her partner’s chest Janet sighed, “You look amazing,“ Sam heard her say softly.

“You not so bad yourself,” Sam replied placing a kiss on the head below her chin, “She hasn’t hurt you has she?”

“No…we’re both fine, a little frazzled but fine,” Janet replied her voice still soft.

“It will be over with soon…I promise,” Sam told her.

Janet looked up into her partner’s blue eyes, “Please be careful Sam.”

“I will…you can count on it,” Sam replied bending her head down to place a soft kiss on Janet’s lips, breaking it she held the doctor tight and moved them across the floor.

A few feet away a similar conversation took place as Olivia held Alex in her arms, she gazed into her slightly taller partner's eyes and asked, “So…does being captured by aliens beat prosecuting bad guys?”

“I think I’d rather be facing off with Petrovski than be kidnapped,” Alex replied, “But this is kind of exciting…in a secret spy way.”

Olivia laughed softly then grinned, “I even have the tux to go with it,” she said and jumped as Alex pinched her waist, “alright…I’m getting serious now.”

“Are you armed?” Alex asked when she ran her hand under Liv’s jacket and felt the zat at her side.

“Careful…don’t make my laser gun go off,” Liv admonished her and when Alex gave her a confused look she explained what she meant.

“Ah…Janet had one of those but they took it from her when they abducted us,” Alex said as Liv moved them across the floor, she glanced over to where Sam and Janet swayed together, “They really are two incredible women…some of the things Janet told me about would make some people run screaming the other way but they take them in stride.”

“Well then…don’t you think that says something about us? I mean it’s not everyday we see a woman who’s not a woman with glowing yellow eyes or learn about a wormhole that takes you to other worlds,” Liv remarked.

“True…I guess we are quite a pair ourselves,” Alex said and dipped her head down to kiss her partner softly.

The music soon ended and they escorted the women back to the table, when Alex and Janet were seated Hathor sauntered up, “Now that you know I kept my word…what of yours?”

“Is there someplace a little more private we can discuss this?” Sam asked the Goa’uld.

“Follow me,” Hathor said, motioning for one of the men to stay and the other to follow them.

Alex and Janet watched their partners trail behind the woman as they left the ballroom, “What’s in that direction?” Janet asked the lawyer.

“The restrooms and a few private ballrooms,” Alex told her, “Why?”

“Because Sam told me to wait five minutes and then follow them,” Janet said in a hushed tone as she glanced towards the bodyguard.

Alex looked at her watch, counting down the time for the doctor to make her move.

***********************

Hathor pulled open a door, she motioned for the two women following her to enter and then told the bodyguard to stand outside, entering she let the door close behind her.

Sam leaned against the vanity, while Liv checked to make sure the restroom was empty and then they waited on Hathor; she walked into the room and strolled up to Sam, “Well Major Carter when do I get to make that trip to the SGC?”

“Are you sure you wouldn’t like to hang around New York for awhile? I’m sure there are a few more eligible bachelors you haven’t kidnapped yet,“ Sam replied in sarcastic tone.

“Now Major…I’ve kept my word…doesn’t yours mean anything,” Hathor remarked.

While Sam bantered back and forth with the Goa’uld Olivia slowly moved behind her towards the door.

“Well you see…I was given orders before I talked with you and they make any deal I made with you null and void,” Sam said to the alien.

“Do not try my patience Major,“ Hathor said her tone growing dangerous as her eyes flashed and she held up her gauntleted hand.

“Now why would I want to do that?” Sam sneered.

The gauntlet’s jewel glowed red and Sam crumpled to her knees; this was what Olivia waited for and she reached inside her jacket, quickly pulling the zat out then activating it as she pointed the weapon at the Goa’uld.

Hathor caught the movement out of the corner of her eye in the mirror and whirled around, sending a blast from the hand device towards the detective before she could fire. Olivia flew back against the wall, the zat falling out of her hand as she slid down to lie gasping for breath on the floor.

“Now where was I?” Hathor snarled out as she turned back to Sam and activated the weapon once more, making Sam writhe on the ground and cry out.

So involved in her torture of the woman before her Hathor failed to hear the door open; Janet walked into the room and heard Sam cry out, she spotted the fallen zat on the floor and quickly moved to scoop it up.

Sam forced herself to rise up on her hands and knees, she looked up at Hathor, ”Did you really think we would let you leave this planet?” she growled out between gritted teeth.

“I tried to do this the diplomatic way Major…now I do it the painful way,” Hathor hissed and increased the output from the device forcing Sam back down on the ground to writhe again then lay motionless.

“No!” a voice called out and a blue beam hit Hathor, crackling around her, she whirled bringing her hand to bear on the doctor and Janet fired again, this time the beam caused the Goa’uld to crumple to her knees and with one final motion she tried to blast the doctor.

Janet’s determined gaze never wavered as she fired the zat a third time and with a strangled cry the woman before her disappeared. She let the weapon fall from her hand and rushed forward to fall to her knees next Sam’s crumpled form.

“Sam…Sam…answer me!” She said in an anguished voice as she felt for a pulse in her partner’s throat.

Groaning softly Sam opened her eyes, “What took you so long?” she asked her voice still shaky.

Janet pulled her partner into her lap and held onto her tight, rocking back and forth, “Oh god…don’t ever do that again,” she said her voice cracking with emotion.

The doctor heard the door open and turned around to see Alex enter the restroom, the lawyer walked further in and saw Olivia slowly sitting up; moving to kneel next to her partner she looked over at Janet, “You were right…both of the bodyguards just suddenly snapped out of it and wandered off,” she said to the doctor as she helped Olivia up and the couple walked over to the pair still on the floor.

Liv looked down at Sam, “Are you okay?”

Sam grunted, “Oh yeah…piece of cake,” she said with a grimace.

“Samantha Carter that was the stupidest plan you have ever come up with…what if I couldn’t have gotten past the bodyguard? What if she had used that hand device on you full strength? What if…” Sam reached a hand up and covered Janet’s mouth stopping her babble.

“It worked…now help me up from the floor, my pretty dress is getting all wrinkled,” Sam told her with a smile, letting her arm fall back down to wrap around Janet‘s waist.

Janet sighed and grasped Sam’s head in her hands, pulling it to meet hers’ she kissed her partner soundly, pouring all her emotion into the action. Alex and Olivia watched for a second and then turned to give them a little privacy.

“Are you okay Liv?” Alex asked her partner.

“I feel like I’ve been hit by a bus but I’ll survive,” Liv told her as she stretched her aching back, “it’s nothing that a nice long, hot bath won’t cure…preferably with you in there with me,” she added with a grin.

“Hey…can I get a little help here,” they heard Sam say and turned to see Janet still holding onto her partner tight, “seriously guys, get her to let me up.”

“Hush,” Janet admonished and then she loosed her grasp on Sam, letting Alex and Olivia help the two of them up from the floor.

When they were standing Janet threaded an arm around Sam’s waist, letting the taller woman lean on her until she steadied herself and then Sam looked down at her, “You did great Janet…really; I’m sorry you had to watch her do that to me but it was the only way I could think of to distract her,” she said placing a kiss on her partner’s temple, “Are you okay?”

Janet knew she was asking about her having to kill the Goa‘uld, “I don’t care…she was going to kill you; if I hadn’t done it she would have but never make me have to watch that again…better yet never tell me about it when it happens off world unless it injures you and I have to fix you,” she said looking up at her partner.

“Well I’ll just have to not let it happen again then,“ Sam replied with a small smile and hugging her partner tight, knowing it was a hard promise to make but she would try.

With that said the two couples made their way out of the restroom, walking back to the ballroom, Sam stood up a little straighter and spoke, “You know I could use a nice stiff drink and then maybe another dance.”

Liv laughed, “You sure bounce back quick,” she said smiling at Sam as she rubbed the back of her neck.

“Oh after so many times of having that done to me it doesn’t take long to recover…but notice I said the drink and then the dance,” Sam said, looking over Janet’s head to give the detective a huge smile, “besides…we’re still on vacation and how many other opportunities am I going to have to show off my little woman to New York high society.” she added squeezing Janet in a one-armed hug.

Janet muttered, “I should have shot her sooner, I think she scrambled your brain.”

“Nah…now come on let’s get that drink,” Sam said and the two couples made their way over to the bar to begin enjoying the rest of the evening.
