Summary: Christmas at Jack's house
AN: here ya go Dar!...I know you gave me the prompt of X-mas party at Jack's house but the muses changed it up on me..and I kinda wanted to dip back into the CH world..so this is what I came up with...hope you like it!
The doorbell rang and Jack left his gathered guests to answer it; upon opening, he discovered Janet, Cassie and who he assumed was Sam, it was hard to tell since the Major looked like a pack mule, loaded down with an armful of gifts.
“Merry Christmas!” he said loudly, motioning them in. When they all stood in the foyer he took the coats from Janet and Cassie, who ventured into the other room, hanging them in the closet, he turned back to Sam and could not help the next comment.
“You got enough stuff there Carter?” he asked, grinning as she tried to balance the load.
“No Sir…I think I could have stacked a few more boxes on me, but there was the whole need to see where I was going thing, ya know?” Sam replied rather sarcastically, “Think you could help me out here Jack, since some of them belong to you too?”
Her CO laughed and began removing packages from her arms, helping her carry them into the living room to stack next to the huge tree he put up this year. Usually Jack was not one to celebrate Christmas so enthusiastically but this year he had Meg and the boys staying with him so he went all out trying to show them the fun aspects of the holiday.
Once they arranged the presents around the tree the pair walked into the dining room where they found the rest of the team along with Meg and the boys gathered around a huge spread of food. Sam gave him a confused look, “Please tell me Meg cooked all that and not you,” she said to him.
“Hey…I can cook…but yes she did most of it,” he replied.
“Well now…since tha girls are here now we can eat,” Meg told the group.
Everyone took a seat and once Jack said a quick blessing, they began passing dishes of food around until everyone’s plates were full. Sam glanced around the table at her friends…no…not friends; they were her family she realized. Daniel was talking with Meg about something, whatever it was made the old women grin and wink at him. Jack and Teal’c seemed to be discussing what football game they wanted to watch after the meal, while next to them Cassie was trying to explain something to Jared and Korin, she caught the word presents and realized Cass was explaining the whole gift giving process to them…again.
She felt a hand squeeze her thigh, glancing next to her she saw the smile on Janet’s face, “Just one big happy family aren’t we?” the doctor asked.
Sam placed her hand over Janet’s squeezing back, “Yep…we sure are,” she replied.
Soon the conversation evened out as everyone dug into his or her food, enjoying the meal greatly. Before long empty plates, full bellies and happy sighs were all that remained of the dinner. Slowly they left the table, Jack and Teal’c wandered back into the living room and Sam heard the sound of the TV coming to life. They three children soon disappeared outside to run off their full stomachs. Janet and Meg began gathering empty dishes to carry to the kitchen, leaving Sam and Daniel to stare at each other across the table.
He raised an eyebrow at her, “Football or dishes,” he mused aloud.
Sam’s face scrunched up, “Dishes definitely; besides I know Janet made a chocolate pie and it’s in the kitchen,” she told him grinning.
“Dishes it is then,” he said returning the grin and the two began clearing the table off.
Walking into the kitchen, they set the dishes on the countertop, making several trips until they had the table cleared. Once done with that, Daniel began digging around in the cabinets for containers for the leftovers, finding some he tossed them to Sam and they began transferring food into them. Realizing the kitchen had grown silent, she looked up to see Meg and Janet looking at her and Daniel with big grins on their faces.
“Meg you sure trained them well,” Janet remarked trying to contain a laugh.
“Ay…I’ll take credit for tha boy but yer girl there she learned from ya I think,” replied the old woman as she turned back around to wash dishes.
Janet continued to grin at the pair; finally Sam couldn’t take it anymore, ”What?”
“Nothing…just happy is all,” replied the doctor as she turned back to help Meg by drying dishes off.
Once they finished transferring leftovers, the two joined the assembly line, drying dishes. With their help, the clean-up work finished in no time, the four stood around the kitchen talking as Sam and Daniel began eating their reward.
Janet leaned into Sam, “You just wanted pie,” she said joking.
“Mmmuh…pie good,” Sam mumbled around a mouthful and held a bite up for Janet to take.
Janet took the bite from the fork held before her, “It is good isn’t it?” she said chewing the bite.
Sam waited until Janet finished chewing and then leant down giving her a kiss, leaning back, she smacked her lips, “Mmmm…chocolate kisses are better though,” she said with a grin.
Daniel laughed at Sam’s comment, which earned him a stuck out tongue from the doctor and a smirk from Sam. As he ate his own pie, he talked with Meg, “So…how do you and the boys like staying with Jack?”
Meg thought for a few moments, “Tis good Daniel; he is a fine man for tha boys ta look up ta. He has been teaching them all sorts of things about leadership…things they will need once we return home,” she replied then grinned, “and once he learnt I was in charge of tha kitchen it worked out very well.”
That comment made the trio begin to laugh so loud that soon Jack appeared in the kitchen doorway. Seeing the plates Daniel and Sam held he perked up, “Pie? You’re eating pie and didn’t call me? Jack said in a whiney voice.
Meg cut him a slice, handing him the plate she told him, ”Stop yer whining, there is another one in tha icebox.”
“Mmmm…pie,” he moaned taking a bite, “good pie Janet,” he mumbled around the bite.
This started another round of laughs as they stood in the kitchen eating the dessert, when the three teammates finished the group went back into the living room where Teal’c sat on the couch watching the football game, “O’Neill, I believe you chose the wrong team to win. My choice has scored twice since you left the room. I shall win the bet,” he stated.
“It ain’t over with yet big fella, just you wait,” Jack told him and then went to the back door, sticking his head outside he hollered for the kids and before long the three rambunctious children streamed into the house, to take seats on the floor next to the tree.
Sam sat on the floor with her legs crossed, allowing Janet to sit in her lap, with Daniel and Meg taking seats on the couch next to Teal’c. Sam rested her chin on Janet’s shoulder watching as Jack played Santa Claus and began passing out presents. Soon Meg,the boys and Cassie had a pile of gifts before them and with a nod of his head to the kids Jack signaled it was okay to begin opening them.
The sounds of paper ripping and happy exclamations from the children signaled their love of the gifts they received from the adults. All of them it seemed had done very well this year. Cassie received, several new CDs along with a new player from Daniel, Teal’c gave the girl a new stuffed bear and Jack presented her with a new pair of boots.
Janet leaned back in Sam’s arms, “Did you know he was getting her those?” she whispered.
“Yes…why do you think I stopped you from buying them,” she whispered back.
Janet chuckled, they watched as the boys opened their gifts; Daniel gifted them both with several textbooks varying in subject, for them to have to learn from after they left. Teal’c gave the pair matching knives along with belts and sheathes to carry them in. Their gifts from Sam and Janet were a box of art supplies for Korin (the boy was showing quite an aptitude for fine arts) and Jared received an Erector set (Sam having found he like to build things).
While the boys opened their gifts Jack disappeared, Sam looked around and finally spotted him walking down the hallway carrying a large box in his arms. Entering the living room, he placed the box on the floor in front of the two boys.
Sam let her forehead rest on Janet’s back, “He didn’t did he?” she muttered.
“Oh yeah…he did,” remarked Janet as she watched the boys open the box and jump with glee as they reached in picking up the two puppies it contained.
Sam groaned, looking up at Jack, “You got them puppies?”
“Hey it was your kid’s fault…she told them that silly rule I made up when she got hers’,” he said looking down at the pair, “besides, they have dogs on their world so it’s all good.”
On the couch Meg was busy unwrapping her presents. From Daniel she received a set of sturdy metal kitchen tools; she picked up the large metal spoon and waved it at him causing both Sam and Daniel to burst out laughing. Teal’c bestowed a beautifully carved walking stick upon the tiny woman, she thanked him by tapping him on the shoulder with it, making the Jaffa smile at her; Jack gave her a set of spices with a promise to refill them whenever they visited. Her gift from the two women was a large, thick patterned quilt; she smiled at them a tear escaping from her eye. Motioning to the boys, she sent them out of the room, leaving their puppies to play with Cass they ran from the room and soon returned with their arms full of wrapped gifts.
“Now Meg…I thought we agreed you all didn’t have to get us gifts…in fact we decided to just concentrate on you and the kids this year,” Jack said looking at the old woman.
“We wanted to give ya something so no arguments boy,” she said shaking her new walking stick at him.
Jared and Korin walked around handing each of the team members two gifts along with Cassie. Once done they sat back on the floor to play with their puppies and watch as the adults opened their presents.
Sam and Janet both opened their smaller gifts first. Tearing away the paper they discovered finely carved animals, so rich in detail they looked as if they would come to life; Sam’s was a lioness, crouched in a pouncing stance and Janet’s was a mother rabbit, wrapped around two smaller ones. They both looked up at Korin who was trying to hide his blush.
“Do ya like em?” he asked.
“They’re beautiful Korin…thank you,” Janet told him with Sam seconding the statement.
Each team member received an animal just as beautiful, Teal’c’s was a bear, Daniel’s was an owl and Jack’s was a fox. Cassie held hers’ up; it was a little kitten playing with a ball of string.
“The boy as talent,” Sam heard Jack say softly as he ran his fingers over the little carved fox.
Cassie beat everyone to the next gift, unwrapping it she discovered a beautifully stained wooden box with a little latch on the front to keep it closed. She opened the box to discover it filled with cookies, taking one out she bit into it and grinned.
Everyone received a box of the cookies, while they were munched on, Meg spoke up, ”Jared made the boxes and of course tha cookies are from me,” she told them.
Jack chewed on a cookie, “Now I know why you two spent so much time in my workshop, sneaky scamps,” he said shaking a finger at them.
With all the gifts opened, everyone helped to gather the torn paper and soon the living room was back to normal. The children took the puppies outside to play and the adults settled down in the living room to watch TV. Sam had moved to a chair but Janet still insisted upon sharing it, sitting cuddled in her lover’s lap. Sam glanced around the room and noticed everyone’s attention on the football game, taking advantage of it; she dipped her head down capturing Janet’s lips with her own in a slow kiss.
Breaking the kiss but keeping her head close to Janet’s she whispered; “Merry Christmas…you know you have presents to unwrap at home right?”
Janet nodded, “And they aren’t all under the tree either,” she whispered back grinning and then reclaiming Sam’s lips.
“Don’t make me go get water to throw on you two,” they heard Jack yell from across the room.
Ignoring the comment Janet finished the kiss and then turned her head looking at him, “I have a medical bag in the car Jack, full of needles with your name on them,” she returned.
This made everyone burst out laughing as Jack covered himself with Meg’s quilt, trying to hide from Janet’s gaze.
The rest of the day was filled with much laughter and joy as they enjoyed Christmas at Jack’s house.
