She opened her eyes.
At least she thought they were open, running a hand over her face just to make sure.
Yes…they were.
All that surrounded her was darkness; the kind which enveloped all your senses, cutting you off from the rest of the world.
She drew her knees up close, resting her forehead on them as she wrapped her arms around her legs; drawing her body into a ball.
She tried not to jump at the smallest noises; dripping of water, scurrying of small feet or the screams heard echoing in the distance.
All she could do was wait.
