Come my friends…let us pay a visit to Terline, Minnie and their new tank mates; Cleo, Flash and Zip. Let us see what really goes on in their little fishy brains…heh

Author's Note: Spook has been given a new name...fits his personality better or at least his current action...his new name is Zip!

Terline watched as Minnie and Cleo played tag with Flash, the little algae eater was proving to be quite the swimmer. So far they were unable to catch him, even when they teamed up to trap him in the big rock; he managed to slip past them every time.

Finally, they gave up and swam over to float next to Terline. Flash disappeared into the rock fort, his tail sticking out twitched occasionally with nervous energy, as he tried to calm down from the game.

“Minnie…you and Cleo need to give the little guy a break, you’ve been running him ragged since he got here,” Terline commented as she floated next to her tank mates.

“Awww…he likes to play with us and besides it’s him or Zip; and Zip just goes back and forth, he’s no fun,” whined Minnie.

Cleo spoke up, “She’s right…Flash is more fun to chase.”

Terline waggled her fins at them, “It doesn’t matter, and if you keep chasing him like that you’re going to give him a stroke or something.”

“Oh alright…but if he comes to use wanting to play then it’s game time,” remarked Minnie, “Hey Cleo…come on I’ll show you how to do head stands…it’s fun.”

“What’s a head stand?” Terline heard the calico fish ask as the two swam back down to the bottom of the tank and Minnie proceeded to show the smaller fish her favorite game.

Terline focused her attention on Zip now. The little white fish was being spastic again. He would have spurts of inactivity and then swim franticly back and forth in the front part of the tank, zipping up to break the surface of the water. When you could catch him being still he turned out to be quite the intelligent fish.

Terline musing was interrupted by Flash who swam up from the rocks, attaching himself to the glass in her corner.

“Hello Terline,” he greeted her.

“So you can speak at a normal pace,“ laughed Terline.

“Oh…I only do the fast talk when I’m excited,” the slim fish said out of the corner of his mouth.

“What are those two doing now?” he asked changing positions on the glass.

“They are playing Minnie’s favorite game…head stand; it will keep them entertained for awhile so you don’t have to worry about them chasing you,” Terline informed him.

“Oh I don’t mind the chasing; they can’t catch me anyway. Minnie is fun, she lets me ride on her back sometimes,” he said nonchalantly, “I thought they were looking for more of our food because the human puts it under the rocks for me and Zip.”

“I’m sorry about that by the way,” Terline said, ashamed that she too had eaten some of the disc, “I don’t know why but we seem to be attracted to your food. Minnie can’t get enough of it.”

“Well we can get to the pieces that fall in between the rocks, so I guess sharing isn’t so bad,” mused the slim fish, “but it was funny watching those two push that cage thing around.”

Terline laughed, yes that had been funny in a way. During the last feeding, the human dropped a box shaped cage into the water. Minnie had immediately zoned in on it after gobbling up her share of flakes, smelling the algae chip she tried to find a way to get to it. After many attempts to get in the small entrance hole, she finally began bumping the cage around the tank with Cleo joining her.

They discovered if the chip hit the sides of the cage pieces of it would fall off and float through the mesh. But soon the human noticed what was going on and removed it; going back to stuffing small bits of discs under various rocks. Terline had eaten one such bit.

“I’m sure the human will think of another way to remedy that problem; the cage was a good idea, it just need refining,” remarked Terline.

“Okay…well I’m going to go check out the rock for a snack. See you later Terline,” Flash said as he detached and swam over to the rock, disappearing into one of the holes.

“Ah to be young again,” muttered Terline as she swam down to the bottom of the tank to finish reading her book. Soon she had a visitor as Zip swam over to float next to her.

“Hello madam,” he greeted her. “ahh…you read?” he asked when he noticed the open book on the outside of the tank.

“Yes…it gives me something to do and Minnie seems to leave me alone if she sees that I’m busy,” Terline told him.

“Hmm…would you mind if I joined you on occasion?” he asked.

“You can read?” she asked sounding surprised.

“Oh yes…our tank in the store was across from the bags of dog food; I taught myself from looking at them all day. In fact that is the main reason I’ve been so frantic lately, not having anything to focus on causes me to become spastic I’m afraid,” he told her sounding ashamed of his actions.

“No need to explain, we all have our little quirks. Here I’ll move over so you can see better,” Terline said to Zip as she floated over to the left some giving the little white fish enough room to look at the book with her.

The two fish, one gold and one white, floated quietly side by side each lost in the words on the page before them. Occasionally they would stop and watch as Minnie and Cleo once again played chase with Flash. Terline made a tsking noise as she turned back to the book.

“These new tank mates were turning out to be very interesting,” she thought as began reading once more.
