Goldfish tale--# 7
Just a quick introduction of the new fish..I need to watch them a few more days to work out their personalities a little more..Enjoy!..and thank you to
replicarter22 for letting me snag her new goldfish icon..heh
Come my friends...let us meet the new additions to Terline and Minnie's world.
Not quite a week passed since the death of Vala when Terline noticed the human walking up to the tank with a plastic bag in her hands.
“Hmm…new tank mate already. This should make Minnie perk up,” the pale goldfish said to herself.
Minnie just wasn’t her old self since the death of her little black friend. Terline attempted to play with her but the larger fish told her it wasn’t the same. Terline finally gave up with trying to cheer Minnie up and took up her old habits of reading and listening to the TV.
“Hey Minnie!” Terline called out.
Minnie poked her head out of the fort of rocks, “What?”
“Come up here. We’re about to get some company,” Terline told her.
Minnie swam up to float beside her friend. They watched as the human lifted up the cover and placed the bag in the tank. They kept their distance from the floating bag, but could see that it contained three fish.
Minnie’s curiosity finally got the best of her and she swam over to check out the new additions to their world.
“Hey Terline…come here!” she called out all excited.
Terline swam over to float beside the excited fish. “I know that’s a goldfish…but what are the other two?” Minnie questioned her.
Terline swam around the bag trying to get a good look at the two smaller fish, one was solid white, with red eyes and had whisker looking feelers near its mouth; the other was longer but slim with a sucker shaped mouth. The third fish was most definitely another goldfish, except she was a calico, with orange and black splotches on a white body.
“Well…that slim one is an algae eater; we had one in the tank I was in in the store. They keep the tank clean by eating all the icky algae that grows on stuff,” Terline told Minnie, “the white one I’m not sure about; may be some kind of catfish because of those whiskers.”
“Hmm…the two little ones look kinda hyper,” mused Minnie, “maybe they’ll want to play race with me. Ya think?”
“We’ll find out in a little while Minnie, let’s wait until the human lets them out,” Terline told her as she swam down to the rock. Minnie followed her down and they waited for the new fish to be released.
A few moments later, the bag rose from the tank and then the new fish entered the tank in a rush of water, swirling around for a moment they soon got their bearings and began exploring the tank. Terline and Minnie swam up to the calico goldfish to greet her.
“Hello…I’m Terline and this is Minnie,” the pale goldfish told her new tank mate as Minnie swam around the two in excited circles.
“Umm…hello. I don’t have a name,” the calico fish replied, twirling around as she tried to see what Minnie was doing.
“Don’t worry our human will give you one,” Terline told her.
“Oh oh let me do it this time!” Minnie called out as she swam over to where the human was watching the new fish.
The human began pointing towards each new fish, tapping on the glass as she spoke. Soon she rose and walked away from the tank.
Minnie swam back to join Terline and the calico, “She said your name is Cleo, isn’t that a pretty name?” she said to the new fish.
“Well done Minnie…what about the others?” asked Terline.
“Well…the white whatever it is she called Spook and…” Minnie was interrupted as the slim fish rushed past her, attaching itself to the glass beside them.
“Whoa…he’s fast! That’s Flash…I see why she named him that now,” commented Minnie as she swam over to check out what Flash was doing.
“Hi…I’m Minnie. The human named you Flash, isn’t that cool?” she said to the slim fish, “What are you doing?”
“Lookingforfood,” came the fast answer, “buteverythingistoclean.”
“Whoa…you even talk fast,” laughed Minnie.
Just then, the tank cover lifted up and some flakes dropped in along with a green disc that drifted to lie on the bottom of the tank.
“Food!” an excited Flash yelled out as he swam to the algae wafer.
Soon Minnie, Terline and Cleo made short work of the floating flakes and Minnie swam down to where Flash and Spook were nibbling on the green disc.
“OOOO…what’s this?” Minnie asked as she wormed her way in between the two eating fish.
“This is our food,” came the reply from the white fish, his whiskers twitching excitedly.
“Ourfoodanditsgood!” Flash rushed out as he nibbled on the disc.
“Let me have a taste,” Minnie said as she took a nibble from the disc, “hey it is good.”
Minnie began to nibble furiously on the disc while the other two fish backed away to escape her excited movements. Terline swam down to float next to the pair as they watched Minnie pick apart their food disc.
“I’m sorry about that…I’m sure the human will give you another one when she sees that Minnie is being a greedy fish. My name is Terline by the way and that’s Cleo,” she said motioning with her fin towards the calico goldfish.
“I’m sure we’ll be able to get to whatever she leaves us,” the little white fish remarked.
“Yeahwecangetintothecracks,” Flash blurted out, he then swam off to investigate the rock with holes.
“The human named you Spook,” Terline told the white fish beside her.
“Spook…hmm, I guess that’s an okay name. I do look a little spook like don’t I?” he commented to Terline, blinking his eyes.
“Hey…you can blink! I didn’t know fish could blink,” a confused Terline said.
“All my kind can, I’m a copybara…it’s so we can close them while feeding on the bottom, so the things stirred up by feeding won’t injure our eyes,” Spook informed his new tank mate.
“Very interesting, you learn something new everyday,” Terline mused.
"I’m going to check out the rest of my new home; maybe when I’m finished she will be done and I can eat the leftovers,” he told Terline and swam away to explore.
Terline swam back up to join Cleo who was watching Minnie peck away at the disc. Floating beside her new tank mate Terline thought that things were going to be very interesting in the tank now.
