Goldfish crack # 4
When we last left our lovely trio (yes folks there’s three of them now) they were waiting to move into their new home….let us jump ahead a few days and see how they handled the transition…
Terline was calmly floating in the corner of the new tank; occasionally she would venture forth to swim along the side, stopping to play in the stream from the filter system. It was nice to have the room to swim where she wanted now, also the light in the new tank allowed her to read more of the various books and DVDs stacked next to the tank.
She swam back to her corner, angling her body downwards to watch her other tank mates play; well she thought they were playing but there was no telling what Minnie had talked Vala into doing. The little black goldfish was proving to be very smart, except when it came to playing with Minnie. Right now, they looked as if they were seeing who could stand on their heads the longest. Pretty soon it seemed Vala began tired of the game as she stopped then swam up to float next to Terline.
“Hey Terline, what ya doing?” the little fish asked.
“Watching the two of you act like fools,” replied Terline.
“Awww we’re just playing,” stated Vala.
“Okay…if you really call what Minnie talks you into doing playing then good for you; personally I think she’s short a few marbles,” commented Terline as she swam towards the rock on the far side of the tank.
“She’s fun; why don’t you play with us?"Asked Vala as she followed behind
“Because I spend my time constructively; I do things to expand my knowledge,” Terline stated as she swam into one of the hollows cut into the rock. Finding a comfortable spot, she floated calmly.
Vala found a place to float in among the strands of the fake blue plant above Terline, “What kinds of things?” she asked.
“I read from the books our human keeps next to our home, listen to the music she plays or to the TV,” Terline said, “For instance did you know that goldfish can be conditioned to come when called?”
“No…I didn’t know that,” commented Vala, “can you prove it?”
“Sure…watch this. Hey Minnie!” yelled Terline.
Minnie stopped standing on her head, twisting around she looked in the direction the yell came from, “What?” she asked.
“Come here!” called out Terline.
Minnie swam over to the rock and floated patiently in front of Terline.
“See…it’s a proven fact,” stated Terline.
Vala let out a laugh punctuated by a stream of bubbles, “Okay you proved your point.”
Minnie was still floating in front of the rock, “What’s so funny?” she asked.
“Nothing you would understand,“ Terline told her, then she noticed something odd about the fish in front of her, “Minnie be still for a minute.”
Terline swam out of the hole and circled Minnie several times, “Hmmm…interesting,” she mused.
“What? What's wrong, have I grown an extra fin or something? Asked Minnie as she watched the pale fish swim around her.
“No…no extra fins, but you are changing color,” Terline said.
“What! I’m doing what?” blurted out Minnie.
“You used to have this big patch of black running from the tip of your nose to your dorsal fin, but now it’s just a small stripe,” Terline told her.
Minnie swam over to the side of the tank, looking at her reflection she could see that Terline was correct; her black patch was slowly being replaced by golden scales. Twisting and turning she tried to see if any other color changes were taking place.
“Why am I changing colors?” she asked in a worried tone.
“I have no idea, maybe the human will notice and say something about it to us,” Terline said to her.
“Okay….well I don’t feel any different; hey Vala let’s play tail stand now,” Minnie called out to the little fish.
“You go ahead, I’ll join you in a second,” replied Vala.
As they watched Minnie swim to the middle of the tank and begin to float upright in place Vala asked Terline, “Could you teach me that reading thing?”
“Sure…you seem smart enough for it; when you aren’t playing mindless games with Minnie I’d be happy to teach you,” Terline told her.
“Cool! I’m going to go play now; we’ll start the reading stuff later,” Vala said as she swam over and began copying Minnie’s actions.
“Well there’s hope for her yet I guess,” said Terline to herself as she swam back up to her corner and watched the other two fish play their game.
Author's note: Minnie really is changing colors...I have no clue why..if any body knows please tell me..lol
Edit: Goldfish do change colors! As they grow older some change color...it's a good sign that you have healthy fish and are taking good care of them..yay!..*pats myself on da back*
