From his position high in the rafters of the auditorium, the one-eyed man watched as the heroines he’d been hired to track battled the Amazon.
When Roulette first approached him about the job he almost turned her down, citing he usually worked to kill but the money she’d offered had been too much to pass up. All he had to do was track each one and at a convenient moment switch out their communication devices with ones Roulette gave him. Easy as pie, as some would say.
Switching out the coms of HawkGirl and Wonder Woman had been the most entertaining, he thought with a grin. All he did was wait until the two women met for a little rendezvous and when they were occupied with pleasuring each other, he slipped into the room and made the switch. Actually, it had been fun exchanging coms for all the women, seeing that the only time they removed the devices where when they slept, bathed or were otherwise occupied.
Settling his back against the wall, he made a cringing motion as he watched Wonder Woman toss Vixen into the seats where she landed with resounding boom, scattering the on-lookers.
“That’s going to leave a mark,” he said, chuckling softly.
As he continued to watch the Thanagarian and Vixen attempt to subdue Wonder Woman, he had to admit it was different, this job he’d taken. It was kind of like he was giving his soul a chance to recharge by not adding more notches to his belt and taking another life.
Glancing towards the control booth where Roulette and Sonar now faced off against the Canary and Huntress, the man saw the blonde heroine attempt to use her power then resort to her fists. “Now that’s one little lady I’d like to face off with on my own sometime,” he remarked.
Thinking back to tracking the small blonde, he smiled. “She’s quite the little spitfire,” he mused, recalling how he watched her take down several petty thieves, both with her powers and her fists.
The man was snapped out of his musing by the shaking of the rafter he straddled. Looking down, he saw HawkGirl shaking her head as she slumped against the wall below him. The Amazon floated before her, about to land another blow when the wiry form of Vixen landed on her back, distracting her long enough for the bird woman to recover enough to retaliate, sending all three of them back to the ring floor.
He watched Wonder Woman throw them off of her but as she grasped their heads in her hands to land a final blow, she suddenly stopped. Looking back towards the control booth, he could see Sonar and Roulette in a heap on the floor with Canary and Huntress standing over them. “Well, looks like another one of Roulette’s schemes has bit the dust,” he commented. Then with a crooked grin he added, “Glad she paid me up front.”
From his vantage point the one-eyed man watched the heroines help each other limp away. He rose from his position, readying himself to leave the building when the sound of voices in the empty auditorium caught his attention. Looking back down towards the ring floor he saw Canary and Huntress toe to toe, then they moved away from each other. The blonde removed her leather jacket, while the brunette took off her utility belt; they assumed ready stances and with loud yells rushed towards one another.
Sitting down on the beam and leaning back against the wall, the man gave a short laugh. “I might has well hang around and enjoy the show. No place else I need to be at the moment. Besides, it could be educational watching the little bird wipe the floor with Huntress.”
